IMHO christmas is pretty well divorced from it's christian origin in 21st century western culture. It's a consumer oriented sales event, with a mascot sponsored by coca-cola...
A lot of people I know go to church at midnight on christmas, but even more of my friends (jews, buddhists, agnostics and other neo-pagans) merely choose to spend this legal holiday at home or with friends. Chinese food is usually involved, and everyone generally has a very pleasant time... I'll not bore you by getting into the historical mumbo jumbo regarding the pre-christian origins of solstice festivals celebrated since time immemorial... I hope this answers your question, and doesn't offend anyone.
