I think this idea is original. It is difficult to describe it. Here goes.
Effect: The magician steps into a box that goes up to his knees. He grabs the box and lifts it up. As he is lifting it up his legs seem to disappear. He lifts it all the way up. The legs have disappeared. A little bit of his torso can be seen below the box rim. He drops the box and the legs reappear. What do you guys think?

There is already an illusion like that called "No Feet"—although the torso is not seen while the legs have vanished.

Not at the moment, but I'll see what I can find for you my friend. The first time I saw it was one Gerry Frenette had built, and this was close to 10 years ago, looked pretty cool though. Maybe start with him. I'm trying to think if I saw a demo of it on one of his old video catalogues??

Sounds like black art. Is it?

I just came up with another version. With this version it can be viewed from the side. It looks like you are cut in half and your legs have disappeared. Again the torso can be seen below the box rim. It looks like your torso is floating in mid air. Is that trick on the market?

Andre Cole does it (No Feet) and no there is no black art. If memory serves I think Lance Burton used to do it in his Monte Carlo show as well.

A magician named Wiz Wingo does this trick in his show. He has video of his version on his web-site. http://www.wizwingo.com
I'm not sure if this is the version you're looking for, but it's the same basic idea. Hope it helps.

It was also done by Doug Henning and David Copperfield on one of their specials. It was invented by Andre Kole and he still holds the rights, if I'm not mistaken.

You are correct, I was speaking to Andre about this a few months ago. He still owns the rights and if you wish to build or perform this trick you have to contact him direct and arrange to get the rights.
It's my understanding that VERY few people get the rights to do this trick. |

Laser and No Feet are two different illusions. Laser uses no box where as No Feet requires a box to "Vanish the Feet"

With Laser the feet don't dissapear. It's a sawing in half. I have never seen Copperfield do No Feet.

They are talking about the towel scene on the beach in his Bermuda Triangle special. No box though.

Oh that one. My version is not like that. It looks more like your torso is floating. Do you know Andre's email addres? Do you know how I could get i touch with him?
Thanks.

I saw building schematics for this type of illusions somewhere....deceptively easy.
Another way to use this is to have a 2 piece box....and do a sawing type illusion with a mismade feature where your legs are removed to the side......and the lower opened to show "your legs" levered..and you just there with no legs. The method could be built into the corner of boxes and swung into place for use. Then you would have an original illusion. "The Agony Of DeFeet" Bryan
Oh sure, I can spell "Antidisestablishmentarianism", but I can't type t-h-e.
