I'll kick it off...
Anyways, got to the restaurant today at 5:30, and the parking lot was almost completely filled up. Can't remember a time since October when I had to park in the VERY LAST ROW! We were already on about an hour wait too. So, off the bat I was performing from 6-9pm. Even better. The bar was packed to capacity as well, and that was were most of my performing was done. All was going great until the DJ showed up...then my patter went right out the window, and I was improvising on the spot. But, things went well and I don't feel like it hurt the performance too much, at least not enough for the audience to notice. 9pm rolls around, and management wants to continue the magic untll 10pm. Even better. Finally around 10, things started slowing down and I grabbed a bite to eat. Can't remember the last time I worked 4 hours and was that busy, but it sure was interesting. Ended up doing pretty well in tips too...got several of $20 hand shakes. Learned a lot, and it was a good change of pace. SO....that's it for my NYE. How about everyone else?? Happy New Years! One of the best nights at my restaurant in a few months. Everyone was in a great mood and eager to have some fun. More than a few people quoted that they were in such a good mood because they were ready to be done with 2008! I was just at one of my regular restaurants, 4 blocks from my home. I stayed mostly in the dining room and stayed away from the bar. Like Steve, tips were good, but more important were the smiles, laughter and applause. Also got a few pre-midnight smooches from a few ladies. (And hey, let's face it isn't that why we learned magic in the first place?) The only thing that sucked was the fact that I am currently at the REAL job. I had to be here at 11:45, so no partying, or drinking, but hey, it's double time tonight!

Well, mine was interesting. I was hired by this township to perform walk-around form 5-6pm. They had a psuedo-new year's eve for families at 6pm....apparently it's midnight in england. I'm not sure why that was a factor, but anyhow, here's the catch. It was walk-around....outside. I'm from the Chicago area, and it was about 10-15 degrees out. I knew the situation going in, so I'm not complaining. It was tough though. I always gripe about cards getting messed up and me sweating in the summer humidity. That's a walk in the park compared to the freezing cold. My fingers were literally numb by the end of the hour.
I was busy the entire hour with differing people passing by the tower where the activities were scheduled. Now for the aggravating part. About 75 yards away was a small building where they were selling hot chocolate and coffee and such. From where we were standing (balloon guy there too) it didn't look like it was a congregating place. It wasn't until AFTER we were done and walking to the parking lot that some guy goes, " Hey you guys are nuts standing out here freezing...You should have gone to the shack over there, behind it is an indoor area where a ton of people were sitting waiting for the countdown." GRRRRRRR Oh well, frigidly cold, but still fun!!!! patrick |

Worked 8 till 10 pm, was a great night with everyone in the mood for a good time( although not a busy as previous years, the credit crunch is showing here in the UK), worked for this guy for the past 17 years and looks like I will be back there again this year.

Did my regular Wed. night restaurant gig. Got an extra bonus from the manager who was impressed that because Christmas eve and New Years eve both fell on a Wed. night I showed up. Most people were watching the L.S.U. football game. A lot of regulars. It was a good time. I was home by 8:00 and had a party at my place until 2:00am. Not even hung over. Now that is a good trick!

No restaurant for me last night. I worked a regular gig I do every New Years Eve. Two hour commute out there as I don't drive, so took a train way over to Connecticut. Got there and was greeted by all the regulars. They did it outside and it's freezing and although they have torches everywhere to keep it warm my hands were still frozen solid. Nonetheless, I trooped on with spongeballs, knives, spilled a drink on a lady, and more knives. After the drunken lady assured me it was okay and it was her fault, the night went on wonderfully. I'm assured by three people that I'll get a call for future work.
This spilling drinks in peoples laps thing is becoming a habit of mine while strolling and no one ever seems to mind in the least, they all want more magic. I'm quite lucky when it comes to such things... Overall NYE was good to me, I made money, got more business and made someone look like they peed themselves. Good times! Eddie

Judging by the size of the crowd, it looks like the party was a sell-out, once again. The newer routines were flooring people, probably because of all the work I put into them in the past few months - Slydini Silks, Pocket Chop Cup, 10 Card Poker Deal, etc. I may go back to using the larger Chop Cup, just for an even bigger blow-away factor, just to see if it increases the impact even further with the recent changes that I made.
I didn't have to approach groups this year. The audiences tracked me down in the rooms I performed in. I'll probably stick to the meeting room, the breakfast nook and the mezzanine, next time. The waterpark area was way too noisy - hard to be heard from more than three feet away. |

I haven't performed at a New Years party since the time I did an Army Officer's Club and they were all so drunk nobody watched the show (it was a stage show).

Hi guys,
I had an AMAZING new years eve gig. it was at beauberry house, east dulwich here in london and the event was called the BOND BALL. lots of great looking sophisticated girls and fun guys. it was held here: http://www.beauberryhouse.co.uk one of londons oldest houses. recently I bought myself a classic campervan for my touring gigs: see it here; http://www.gumtree.com/london/01/32596401.html and brought that along. after my work was over, it was back the van for a bit of an after party. believe it or not, there we 32 (!) people in the back of my little camper at one point! all in all one of the most enjoyable new years eves ive had for ages. get yourself a camper as your work truck and enjoy your gigs a lot more. (im currently in the process of pimping up the interior, but am leaving the exterior the same to deter thievery.) regards, geoff.
Check me out on Google. Geoff Diamond Magician.
