Has anyone here done a trick using a staple gun, a monkey, sponge ball, and yourself? I have...I guess you could call THAT out of the ordinary.

Okay, here's a weird one I created and performed a long time ago.
Back in the 80's, when working at bars, I sometimes performed an effect where I would tell the audience that the only way a magician can become a better performer is if the audience gives him instant and honest feedback. I'd then inflate a Whoopie Cushion and I'd tell the spectator that I would now perform a card trick at the end of which I'd like him to sit on the Whoopie Cushion as a way of providing me subtle negative feedback if he didn't like the trick. I'd sit on the Whoopie Cushion myself to show the audience how subtle that message would be (nothing like the noise of flatulence to add real class to an act). I'd inflate the Whoopie Cushion again, hand it to the spectator, perform a not so great pick-a-card effect, and the spectator would inevitably sit on the Whoopie Cushion to let me know that he didn't like the effect. But this time the Whoopie Cushion wouldn't make any noise. I had a puzzled look on my face and would state that something must be interfering with the noise after which I'd slit open the Whoopie Cushion only to find the spectator's selected card inside, finishing by saying that I guess the trick wasn't as bad as he thought. Possibly one of the strangest "magician in trouble" effects I ever created. Don't you love the 80's? P.S. - I'm much classier now? |

Luckily my monkey up there with me was very well trained. So I signaled for him to go get it for me. When he came back he had it in his mouth and I got an idea at the moment and thought it would work. So I tried it. I just happened to have had a staple gun in my coat pocket. I signaled to my monkey to spit out the ball on the count of three. I backed up and on three he spat out the ball and I fired a staple across the stage. The staple hit and penetrated the ball perfectly. It got tremendous applause. Andrew |

Hmmm...
A monkey trained to spit out saliva-coated sponge balls out of his mouth on cue. Andrew, I think I speak for everyone here at the Café when I say, "ewwwwwwww...." :D

You have a trained monkey? That's awesome! I bet none of the stage guys could get their doves or rabbits to do that.
Thought: Why does man kill? He kills for food. And not only food: frequently there must be a beverage.

Oh fine...you tell the monkey; he took the whole thing seriously, and has been diligently practicing for the upcoming East Coast tour you told him you've been booking!

Nah, Steve....he wasn't too bummed out. He knows that he will have plenty more opportunities to show his skills.
