Sorry to push the envelope and ask another question about 3 Fly, but
I need this for some history I'm trying to understand. What year did Jonathan Townsend invent his routine? and what year was it first printed and where? What year did Chris Kenner invent 3 Fly? and when was it printed in Magic Man Examiner? Thanks a lot for the help |

I first explored doing a fingertips coins across with three coins at chest level in the lunchroom of Stuyvesant High School march 1977. I met Chris Kenner in June 1987 at the Vernon Symposium in NYC. There's some detailed background on my experience of the trick's evolution in the September 2006 issue of Genii Magazine.

And in the very same issue Mr. Townsends coins across is taught, and it's not easy. Fun, and brilliant, but not easy.

Ok great, thanks a lot.
Anyone for the Kenner references? |

I believe Chris' self published magazine "Magic Man Examiner" and the booklet "Three Fly" are copyright 1990. The vanish folks seem to like using is a Geoff Latta item he later told us is called a "French Pop".

This is actually very interesting... because some say that Chris Kenner invented it, but I doubt that... because I have some notes where I learn 3 fly, and it is Norwegian notes... now I don´t think any Norwegian magician made it... not at all.. but I am wondering... because the notes are very very old and show the explenation of it... and they are maybe older than cCris Kenner him self.. so!?

Around the same time Kenner published the trick in MME and in Killer Koins Across (the booklet) Gary Kurtz had published his book "Unexplainable Acts". Contained in a routine within that book is a fingertip coins across. Kenner always said that Townsend was the inspiration for his effect. Kurtz doesn't credit Townsend as far as I remember (I don't have the book in front of me). Do a search for Three Fly Dan Watkins posted a wonderful history of the effect and all the variants that were around at the time.

Kurtz does credit Mr. Townsend in one of his videos.
