Here is a question for those doctors here...
Say you are with your friends and someone has a pellet gun. They are 110% sure the pellet gun is unloaded. One of your friends pumps it a couple times and you take it and jokingly shoot him with the air. He says it hurt a little bit but you are laughing and there is never a big deal made about it. Then a few hours later he lifts up his shirt and you see a welt where you shot him. Nothing to bad. Just a red welt. Anyway you both forget about this incident for about 2 weeks. Then he comes and tells you "I have a pellet in my skin!!!" You fell the area that he says contains a pellet. It fells a little like a pellet but you aren't sure. You swear up and down that the gun was unloaded. What would happen if by chance, by some fluke of nature, there was, a pellet loaded in the gun that no one had knowledge of? What would happen to your friend? Chris |

He would probably think twice about befriending you. Wow, what a strange question anyway.

The pellet would have made an entry wound if it had penetrated the skin so it would have been obvious at the start. If a firm bump is felt under the skin, it could be a hematoma or blood clot from the trauma.

I can't see any reason to ask this question
unless.... this has really happened. Has it...? and were you involved ? Howard |

Sometimes when you are hit in a place as concentrated as that the skin becomes really swollen and becomes firm. Another thing that might have happened is, if the pellet broke the skin then it might have gotten infected and had a cist form there, which is hard too.
I am sure from the sound of it that your friend does not have a pellet in his skin. If he did there would be a scap or an entry wound liek GeorgeG said. If there is any way in this world that the pellet went into him, which is EXTREMLY SLLIM from the sound of it, they he would have to go have an incision made where the pellet hit and have it removes. All that would mean in stitches. This doesn't sound like that in the least. Don't sweat it Chris. Andrew |

If one happened to strangle one's mother in law and wrapped the body in an old horse blanket and placed it under the shallow floor of a 1985 brick built house how long would it take for the smell to subside?
Well of course I haven't!! But if you HAVE been involved in this then for heavens sake get him to go to the doctors!! I cannot see any basis on which a police charge would be brought, but both the police and doctor would probably give both parties a good telling off for not acting earlier. |

HE IS OK!!!!!!!!
He came over about 2 weeks ago. That is when the incident happend. I saw the wound today and he is alright. He has a very small scab...but definetly not big enough for a pellet. And he was joking about the pellet thing. Man this scared me A LOT!!!!! It was the compressed air that hit him hard. Chris |

Don't worry-he's Ok , learn your lesson well. How about this.. On prime time TV in UK the other week there's this knife thrower and his wife assistant trying to beat their previous record for how many knives he could throw at her in a minute. He throws umpteen of them and suddenly... one above her head drops down in sticks in her head, blood every where , presenter panicking etc, etc, at least yours was only in front of a few people cheers Howard |

Seismic, you have learned a very valuable lesson about gun handling. NEVER EVER point any form of gun at another person or yourself if you don't intend harm to come to them REGARDLESS of whether you think it is loaded or not. Exceptions for law enforcement and military (and you could still make an argument). The number of people killed or wounded when a weapon that was not supposed to be loaded discharged "by accident" is truly tragic. I personally know more than one. Accidental discharge during cleaning is one common occurrence. As an ex-member of the military, I have handled and fired many types of firearms both conventional and military in nature and I can tell you from first hand experience they are all extremely unpredictable. Even a pellet gun can kill you if the shot hits in the right place! -Reg {*}

As one who target shoots as a hobby, first and foremost is never assume a firearm is unloaded unless you have personally unloaded it yourself....even then, you treat any firearm as if it is loaded! Also, never point a firearm at anyone unless you plan on killing them. I've seen too many reports where someone uses a firearm "just to scare the intruder" and it doesn't go that way...and the victim ends up in the hospital or the morgue. Any type of firearm is never considered any type of toy...whether it be an air pistol, BB gun, etc.

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

Fortunately we don't have laws which allow keeping a gun "as a right" in the UK.
