Glad I got your attention, but I'm not being COMPLETELY deceitful!
I don't think this has come up formally, but I KNOW I'm not the only one who has been thinking it. It's time for another edition!! It's been woefully too long. I'm not a publisher, I don't know how to make it work, but I have found quite a few of you who are worthy of contributing. Terry Owens, Oz and Wilde, Kerry Kistler... just a few who come to mind off the top, but certainly many more, both veterans and all the rest, are bursting with inspirations and God-given talents. I was just looking... SA #1 was published OVER 30 YEARS AGO! Still applicable, but, with #2, certainly not the whole story (I'm at least hoping!) This has been on my heart for a while... am I overreaching or is this a viable point of conversation? Would certainly be interested in hearing from the few mentioned above, as well as the rest. Great idea! I volunteer Stempleton.
Quite frankly, for years this has been on my, "If I ever get the time" list. I would love to see it.

Well, I think this has been on the minds of almost all of us... I like the group thing... maybe we could do this as a group, publish it and make any profit available for some special project... set up a fund to help youth attend the Int. FCM convention???? Help train up the future!

I think that's a great cause, Gene. Should this be an exclusive project of those members of the FCM? Ken, I have the time to compile and I'm sure there are others who could give of their talents on the logistics of it. I honestly had expected more replys for this topic, but you two guys are A-list starters.
Let's hear from more of you. Steve |

Why not work 'long-term' and have magicians from this and other blogs (FCM, FCMUK etc) sending you ideas by e-mail the end of June, then having an electronic copy at the FCM Int for every-one else to have their input about. (Yes I appreciate this is pretty soon for most of us but without some dead-line to aim towards we'll even get started.)
I'm sure most of us could offer one or two suggestions without needing to do a whole chapter. Especially, if we have five months to do so. The hardest job will be adjudicating which ideas to actually include. So count in the Magician's Apprentice and Andrew David.

May I ask what are your opinions of Spiritual Applications for Tarbell #1?

Opinion:
Spiritual Applications for Tarbell 1 and 2 both have great seeds for ideas. I have found they have sparked some routines I've developed. Continuing that would be a worth ambition...perhaps. However...there has been some discussion before this about a new "spiritual applications" book ...but the question is...is Tarbell still the the books to write it the applications. Far more popular right now seems Mark Wilson's book or moving toward the future a bit perhaps it would be more practical to do it for the 2008 Joshua Jay's book. When the first application book was begun...Tarbell was the book. Now...not so sure. Now whatever book that is done...it would seem wise with the book to have performances recorded and included with the book. That is the format most younger magicians seem to gravitate to these days. The "video mentor" so to speak. For guys like me who have grew up on the Tarbell books I would certainly pick them all up...but how many really fit into that category?

Apps volumes give spiritual applications to the tricks in Tarbell, but don't explain how to do them - you need to own the Tarbell volumes 1 & 2. That said, I haven't found one routine in the Spir. Apps books (I have both volumes) that I thought was reasonable. The applications seemed forced or trite. I haven't read all of each volume, and would love to hear if someone has a favorite. Otherwise, Laflins material, or Del Wilson's booklets are a better place to start. For me, some of the best material came right from this site; there have certainly been some good ideas floated. To the point of a new book. Does it need to be tied to any one book? The value, as with stuff here on the Café has been the concept of how to present an spiritual truth. People would reference where the method or prop could be obtained, and that was sufficient for most. Seems that this approach would avoid the pitfall of the original series - that of forcing a spiritual message to a trick, just because it was in the associated (Tarbell) book. John
