I'm still way early into learning how to deal a proper strike second so I feel like I can look at this at least a little bit like an unbiased spectator and I think that you have a very good, natural looking second. We all know many of the things to look for and so that makes it easier to pick things out (I thought the thumb tell that Ben picked up on was particularly good), but as long as your not playing against other "wise" players or you're doing an expo for a group unfamiliar with the mechanics I think it would pass just great. I'm still a newbie on this forum so my opinion obviously lacks authority but I'd love to eventually be able to deal seconds this well. Good job I say!

Wow, I wish I was "that bad". I have practised it many times and never was able to even get started. Can you give a fellow advice on how to get over the hump?

Start with a nice easy strike second, and work from there.
Its alllll about perseverance and practice practice practice. |

So you want your second deal critiqued well here it is.
It is my opinion that your second deal on a scale of 1 - 10 is an 8. I would rate mine a 8 1/2 - 9. Why yours is an 8. Don't forget that this is just my viewpoint on how I look at things. From a gambling point of view I would give you a 10. Forget about that necktying mess because he's talking like a magician. Why? Magicians are the ones who will stand up over you while you're doing your seconds to see how small your brief is and this not so when you're sitting down at a card table and dealing. A sleight necktie swing is necessary when seated at a table. Why? Because no one can deal perfect seconds all night long and when you don't the sleight necktie swing will prevent the sucker from seeing whatever mistake you did make. Magicians sit in front of other magicians with the deck flat in front of them to try and convince a person that they are not doing anything wrong. It's an overkill of too much convincing when it's not necessary. Now if you're a magician than listen to them but if you're a gambler then listen to me. Oh by the way a second deal that's a 10 is when the thumb lifts off of the card such as what Mr. Z and Steve does. The second reason why I gave you an 8 which knocked off a point is because you're pressing down on the top card too hard with your thumb which is giving you the srapping sound. Lighten the pressure so when you deal a natural the sound won't be too different from the second. Keep up the good work and take care, Respectfully Doc |

Thanks again guys.
Tommy, that exercise is brilliant, thanks for passing it along. Ben, I'll work on lessening the thumb-crossing, and let you know how it comes along. Doc, Thanks for the insightful post. I'll definitely work on lifting the thumb; it never occured to me to add that subtle convincing action. The scraping noise is something I've been fighting for awhile, but maybe the addition of lifting the thumb will help to alleviate the excess downward pressure. |

Thanks for the excercise Tommy. Great idea for practicing.
Great seconds. I'm in no position to critique.
Magic is a vanishing art.
