Does anyone have any experiences with Dave Dee's Marketing Course?

Dave Dee's Ultimate Insider Secrets Marketing Pr......ians is a good introduction to marketing for magicians. If you were only prepared to read one marketing book and you were a magican this would probably be the one.
For most people, I would recommend reading more widely. Try visiting Dan Kennedy's web site and download his free books. A good book on direct mail copy writing is well worth reading. You will find many in your local library, or even on the Internet. Dave Dee talks about a fair bit of motivational stuff. If that is what you are interested in, I would much prefer the Tony Robbins system. Some of the things Dave says in his book sound like they have come straight from Tony Robbins. One thing I thought was missing in Dave's program was information on developing a good web site to sell your services. I think the Killer Mini Sites publication is an excellent help for magicians wanting to put a simple web site together. Some would say his promotional literature has not been tested or used enough before being released. I would tend to agree. If you would use copyright free flyers and sample sales letter and that sort of thing I would recommend the Millard Grub 'Magician's Emergency Tool Kit! - Gold Edition'. You can download it from Magic2Motivate.com. Millard Grub has a lot more experience in marketing magic shows than Dave Dee. At the end of the day Dave Dee is not really saying anything that has not been said before. He has just packaged it nicely in an easy to digest format for magicians.

If you want to get booked, I would recommend Stan Kramien's book. (and also on CD-ROM) Go Book Yourself It is a great book, I just read it and have applied some of what he has said and so far it is working well. He focuses on cold calling, which I know a lot of people don't like, and I didn't, before I tried it but it seems to work all right. I mean, the book isn't an end-all but it is pretty good!

I agree with Brian. I have not read this book by Stan Kramien, but I know Stan personally, and would trust his judgement over many others. I do know from experience, that properly cold calling, books more shows than general mass mailings, etc...

Is worth more than it's weight in gold to someone who is interested in making a living from magic vs. those who perform for their magician friends while whining about a lack of work. It's especially attractive since Kramien is offering some of his best books on CD-Rom, at a fraction of the price some have paid hundreds of dollars to get. "Go Book Yourself" is not a book about cold-calling, but it is about making a decision to find and create business and to get out there and go for it. I have a large number of marketing and sales books and courses in my office. I look to Stan Kramien for advice and a kick in the pants to get out there and sell yourself, so that you can build and perform the show you now may be dreaming about. Contact Stevens Magic Emporium, or Stan Kramien directly. Tell him Brisbin sent you. (Then he can say, "Who?, I've never liked his act...") "No Dough - No Show." - Stan Kramien

I picked up both, Go Book Yourself!, and The Illusion Show Business by Stan Kramien at his Jamboree this year. There is so much great information in them both! I also highly recommend them.

I love Stan Kramien.
His books are awesome. Why? Because he doesn't sugar coat anything. If you need sugar coating, he'll offend you. But if you're the type of person that wants to do what you love (performing) and make money with it, Stan's the man. If you have ever *seriously* dreamed of taking a show out on the road, part-time or full-time, you need to get his books. And, you should talk to him on the phone. He's a great guy and his fees are a *steal*. Blair Stage Hypnosis Secrets Revealed: www.Mental-List.com/masterhypnosis.htm |
