Going to be in Phoenix prior and after the weekend of Feb 14 (Renaissance festival)
Any magic to see (other than at the festival)? |

I don't know about magicians but I do you there is a magic shop in Phoenix. I went there once or twice back when I lived in Arizona.

Hey Monty,
Would you happen to have any info on that shop? I'm going to Glendale for a Ducks vs Coyotes game on April the 11th. |

http://www.easleys.com/ I think this is the one. It’s a big store with costumes and all kinds of stuff but it also has a magic room that is a pretty good shop.

I grew up in Phoenix, and spent many Saturdays in the 60s and 70s at Easley's fun shop. The store was founded by the late Bert Easley ("The Tipsy Trickster") and I believe is currently owned and operatated by his son.
Jack Sutherland ran the magic counter at Easley's for years (Harry Anderson was an occasional customer) until he opened his own shop, Sun Magic. Unfortunately, Jack was murdered several years ago, so Sun Magic no longer exists. There's another magic shop, Presto Magic, in nearby Scottsdale. |

Easley's still has the magic counter but it's only manned on Saturday's (I think) although you can purchase whenever the store is open. It is however fairly limited.
Presto Magic Studio in Scottsdale is the last of the old school shops in the Valley. Owned & operated by Barry Schor he specializes in pre-owned magic & books and handles a lot of estate sales. Regular store hours are: Tuesday thru Saturday, 9:30AM to 5:00PM (Mountain Standard Time)/Phone is 480).464.4518. This is from Barry's site: "I have received some wonderful used magic from some of you, and as you all know I am VERY appreciative. You all are my sources, and without you, these used lists would not be possible. Please keep it coming. If you have any magic props, books, notes, or videos that are just gathering dust, I will help you turn them into either cash or trade dollars. Call me and I will be happy to explain how it works." I travel several times a year to Phoenix and always make sure my return flight is late enough in the day to spend a few hours with Barry. He's been in magic forever and knows EVERYONE. Plus he always has a large selection of hard to find & OOP books at reasonable prices. Barry is one of several brick & mortar shops I give my online business to in hopes they stay open a little longer. The best experience in shopping with Barry is his knowledge of magic. Usually I have made my purchase selection within 20-30 minutes then spend the next hour or two talking magic with him. It's a real old school shop and frankly I'm not sure how much longer people like Barry will be able to stay open. Here's the website: http://www.prestomagicstudio.com/ which should be redesigned shortly. Have fun!
