Homemade bands don't quite cut it. That was the whole point in Paul releasing this. I'd get the refills.

Yea, I don't think superglue will work that well. But a solvent weld actually melts the rubber on both ends, lets them mix together, and then evaporates away leaving nothing but rubber. And I would guess that is the method that the people the make them for Paul are using.
I will give it a try anyway.

Nothing that I had on hand worked. Maybe methylene chloride would work but I do not have any around right now. I sent a question to a plastics expert guy I know so maybe he will be able to help with it. But I am starting to think that solvent welding is not the way to go. It might be that ultrasonic welding of the rubber band is the best method to reconnect the pieces. Of course I do not have an ultrasonic welding and not many people do.

It might also have to do with what kind of rubber is used in the bands.

But if you break one mid-routine , just switch to Joe Rindfleisch's new "Jumper" routine using a broken rubber band. People will think you did it on purpose, and the illusion seems just as strong. Might be a good one to learn with the SLR, given the breakage ratio of these bands.

Overall I'm becoming more and more disappointed with the quality of the bands. They keep snapping on me during performance! I've had it happen 4 times now. Twice with the singles during CMH, and twice with the linked bands (that were brand new and had not been used for practice) during the 3 link SLR routine.
I love the effect and the handling and the business card switch. The entire routine is brilliant. But it doesn't really make a difference because the gimmicks are so unreliable. When I HAVE been able to get through a performance, though, it's gotten great reactions and gone over great. But out of the 8 times I've tried performing the effect the bands snapped mid-performance half of those times. I absolutely love this effect, but the gimmicks just aren't reliable enough. |

I've NEVER had a set of mine break on me. If you do it right, The band will break before the link will. And you can't even see the point where it is glued unless you really look. Just make sure to use good superglue. Not the stuff you get at the dollar store five tubes for a buck. I work in the plastics industry. I have for 16 years now. Right now I make all the nozzles and pumps for many different kinds of soap and lotions. Dawn dish soap (The foaming kind) and any lotion you may buy from Bath and Body works for example, have nozzles on them that went through me. Ultrasonic welding would not, I believe, work on rubber. I've worked with ultrasonic welding before. V.

Hi guys,
I have had this for a week or so now, and only just got chance to open it up - (I really need to quit my day job!) Anyway, I'll post a full review and comments later, but I thought I'd drop by the Café to see what everyone else thought of the effect, and to see if there were answers to a few queries I have: Firstly - Ok so I can use normal bands to practice with but why make them out of something that snaps so easily? Am I missing something? - why can't they be made out of normal elastic band rubber? A few of mine have snapped in practice. I see that Paul said that they could only be used a few times before snapping - so why not use real elastic bands? Second Question - and sorry if this sounds silly, but why is this a Paul Harris presents dvd? (I'm fairly new to his material so this isn't a critism, but a genuine question). Is this an actual invention / routine by Paul Harris? - if so, why isn't he teaching it? If this is Joe's routine - why isn't he even credited on the DVD cover? Final comment - I like the fact there are slight join marks on the bands. Most people know we don't have 'real' magic powers and if these were seemless, then to me it would just say 'factory made' on it. This way, it gives the spec something to think about when they are trying to work out how the hell that happened (rather than just assuming we bought them already linked). It looks like we may have actually done something sneaky and fused them together somehow without the spec noticing - 'maybe he secretly snapped them and then fused them together' or 'maybe this is where they linked'. Cheers, |

Paul just sent me some new replacements. The newer ones are indeed stronger. I also noticed they're a little smaller than the first batch.
I'm glad the issue was resolved because I LOVE this effect. I've been performing it almost daily and getting great reactions with it. Awesome effect. Thanks again, Paul! |

Just saw this up on the PHP site. I remember Paul saying he had plans to release the SLR bands in size 19s, and it looks like he quietly slipped them out. I just ordered mine.
