What's this cork and/or rubber stopper nonsense for the top of the can? Can't a top be machined out of brass that would fit somewhat snug across the top?

Why not?

I'm just wondering why the standard pea cans (even the quality expensive ones) use a cork or something as the top.

Brass Pea Can
I just bought this and looking forward to trying it out. I heard somewhere about putting stickytape on the inside? Is that right? Why?

The cork, or stopper top is needed to do the magic.

Right Pete. And the effect is such a quick gag that no one questions the cork. This is not an effect that needs to be perfected. Just pee in their hand and run for the hills.

The thought of a uninformed layperson accidentally coming upon this thread and reading that line just makes my day.

Really.

Agreed. That's one line I'd want a layman to read.

Performing in Hershey, PA as I often do, you can imagine the reactions I get from Scotty's routine. High quality prop, high quality routine.

The pea can was one of the first tricks I purchased in grade school; I had a lot of fun with it way back when. I still have it somewhere; it was made by EZ Magic and is over 30 years old now.
In later years I purchased one from Morrissey, I prefer the old EZ Magic one. I will have to dig it out, I am sure my 5 year old will appreciate it.

Thanks,
Bruce

Yeah the tape is so it's silent... but I've found it quiets down after a while and you can take it off.
