I came across this in a PDF version of Silken Sorcery by Jean Hugard, which was first published in 1937:

Quote:
In closing the subject of methods of vanishing a silk a note should be made of a surprising statement by a recent French author. He says that if a silk is folded into a flat rectangle it can be manipulated by the back and front palm in exactly the same manner as a playing card. "Some practice," he says, "will render this easy." Here is a new opening for those devotees of the art of frantically waving the hands back and forth.

This made me chuckle. What's old is new again. : )

P.S. Silken Sorcery is available as an electronic download from lybrary.com for $3.

"Silken Sorcery" by Jean Hugard is also available at The Learned Pig site for free. They seem to have solved whatever problems they were having with hackers.
