I would just like to take the time to thank everyone here on the forum contributing to my first successful table hopping experience.
This past weekend I was able to do a couple of hours of table hopping magic for a 1 year birthday party. Although I have been involved in magic as a hobbyist for nearly 5 years, this was my first paid performance and boy was it successful! I entertained about 160 guests as I magished my way from table to table. I utilized 3 different routines composed of 3 tricks each (many of my effects were chosen from the "top 5" thread on this board - thanks!). sponge balls, virginia city shuffle, hollow, ring and string, card in wallet, CMH, 3 shell game were some of my effects and they all got great reactions. In fact, there was a clown hired to entertain the toddlers along with a "jumping castle" for the kids. The thing is, the adults were louder than the children! I had 60 year old grandpas following me around from table to table shaking their heads, laughing, and most of all enjoying themselves! While this was quite an informal party (everything here in Hawaii is pretty laid back) I originally did this as a favor for a co-worker. I actually gained a few leads from this experience as 2 other people requested for future services. The bad thing - I had no business card to give them I ended up writing my info on a playing card and handing it out. I'm definitely going to print up some cards now and use Mike Close's pothole effect instead of Hollow. Again, I thank you all for your valuable posts that have led to a great experience for me. I know that I have much, much more to learn but with all the hidden gems of magical wisdom and experience here at the Café I feel like I'm on the right track! nalu |

Nalu,
Congratulations! You are, indeed, on the right track. And you have discovered something that takes some people years to find out: The more you work, the more you work! Good luck! |

Hey Nalu,
It is pretty cool to hear of your success. Stories like that make me want to get out there more and more so I can start doing regular shows. Right now I am gathering all my ideas, and polishing up everything I do so I can be ready to perform at parties and other events. Thanks for posting your story. It was a great one to read. Brian When I want to give out a business card of some sort, I use blank face bicycle cards. Prior to a performance for a group, I will write my info on it with a sharpie marker. Hope that helps you out. Its cheaper than printing business cards. |

If you use blank Bikes you might want to print clear labels to put on them. It works pretty well.
If you are looking for a great place to get cards printed cheap try vistaprint.com. You can get 250 for free + shipping ($9). Doesn't get much cheaper than that. andy |
