Could anyone recommend what books or effects to purchase that deal with re-creating a seance?

It's a collection of all the old Seance Magazines.
It has some pretty cool stuff in it.

There's also Doc Hilford's $1000 Secret Seance and Rick Maue is selling the last of his seance manuscript. I second the book Seance that randirain mentioned. It's got a ton of good information in it.

Sorry to bring it up but if you do a search for "seance" you will find 148 pages of interesting information.

Check out Inner Thoughts and do a Café search . Everyman and his cat are jumping on the bandwagon ( that's not meant nastily ) so its a hot subject right now and there's no better place than here to find what you need . Hope you find all you require .

I second the "The Bigger Book of Boo" and the collected "Seance" magazine.

I was let down with Doc Hilford's $1000 Secret Seance.

Brother Shadow's no prop seance booklet is a classic, Carlyle sells good stuff and even has a training class [from himself an old time pro]. Already mentioned were Seance by Scott Davis, Manifestations by Lee Earle and Bigger Book of Boo by Lary Kuehn - all three are excellant - also don't overlook Kaufman's reprint of Invocation which is a mix of various forms of bizarre magick including seances and spirit magic. This kind of material used to be much harder to find.

Numerous visits to Spiritulism churches and Medium shows coupled with a basic knowledge of magic will yield excellent results as well as ideas to work with .

Well that's about all I can think of for now. I know that The Tarbell course by the great Harlan Tarbell has some interesting seance effects but I can't for the life of me remember which volumes.

It's rather a shabby affair really. It's a site which purports to reveal how the effects in Derren Brown's acts are done.
It's not his site in fact they boast that they've been contacted by Derren Brown's represtentatives and been threatened with legal action. Whether or not they really have is irrelevant. They are trying to raise the profile of their product by linking it with him and marketing their product as an expose of his work.

Here is a quote from their site:

tried to have it banned before we'd even sold a single copy!*

Looking at the contents of the book I really don't think that Derren would give a s**t, its really poor ,basics in fact .

Its all interesting indeed. Actually I didn't know anything about subliminal pursuation's website until now. I just found them a few days ago from googling amidst my search for a very particular bizarre effect and noticed they carred Darren Brown's offering.
