You walk in to a bar and greet the first people you meet. You then talk to them for awhile or leave to return later. You bring out a book you brought with you and ask the spectator to say stop at any page. You go to their selected page and have them select a word on the top line. They think about that word and as they try to send the word around something strange happens. You point to the spectators arm and as they lift it the word they randomly selected appear on their arm.
Rich has come up with a brilliant idea. When I first saw the video I was surprised how easy this would be to perform. Making this trick work is all in the presentation. It will require a good story to make it believable and have the strongest impact on a spectator. The idea behind the trick is to make a thought of a spectator appear on their arm. Yes you did read it correctly. Their thought will appear on their arm and you can be standing as far away from them as you want. This trick can be done in any environment and you can do it completely surrounded. You will be clean at the end and there is no hard slight of hand so you can relax and focus on the presentation. I found this trick to be excellent value for money and it can be used both for street magic and stage magic, and even better it is a trick that does not involve cards for those of you that want something different. The trick does require a gimmic that you will need to make. It does not come with the DVD wich I found dissapointing. Perhaps the parts for the gimmic is easy to find in the US however in the UK you will find it very difficult to find some of the needed parts and Rick does not provide online retailer where you can buy the parts. I live in London and still had to spend many hours finding the parts needed to complete the gimmic. I have still not found the best perts but I have made it work. I think with a trick like this the gimmic should be delivered with the DVD or at least the DVD should provide the links to retailers where you can buy the required parts. I also found that having to carry a book around is not always very suitable. If you are just dressed for an evening out where to you carry a book? I personally don’t want to walk around with a bag of items. I want to be able to put my magic items in my pocket and go out. Also brining out a book set a frame of here is a magician and I personally want to come across as a fun entertaining person rather that a magician. Again this is personal taste so perhaps this is no issue for you at all. Despite the issues mentioned I still believe it is a great trick and well worth getting and learning. If you don’t want to use it for walk around magic it can work great as a party trick at someone's house. The great think about the gimmic is that you can actually change the word your spectator will think of on the spot in a few minutes, so this means that you can find a book in someone else's house and do the trick with their book. Even though it’s not impromptu, it will appear even stronger with a borrowed book. |
