Even though I am not really "new" to magic I seem to keep posting in this forum. I have learned a lot over the last year or so and especially after becoming a part of this site. I am certainly not a beginner anymore, as this was I believe the first question I had on this site a while ago.(Am I a beginner?) I know some slight of hand, but I am certainly not an expert. I definately know that presentation is super important, no matter what kind of trick you are doing. I got real caught up in the beginning in buying the "Latest and Greatest", waiting for that UPS truck to come, or my fiance telling me "a package came" when I got home from work. I have learned that, with the TONS of tricks that I have in my "Magic Room", that the BOOKS I have had lying around the house for years have become SO valauble to me. I have gone from carrying a bag full of bulky tricks to wherever I go to basically carrying around enough to fit in my pockets, especially a regular deck of cards. But after all of my rambling, My question to everyone is that even though I did get real caught up in buying the "latest and greatest", and some of these were way over my head or are just not for me and ended up "in my closet" there have been A FEW that auctally lived up to their name. What I mean is the "up and coming" magicians dream----getting a trick in the mail and IMMEDIATELY making a huge impact with that certain trick. Which one has it been for you? Crazy question I guess but just wondering. I would have to say for me "THE EXTRACTOR" has to be #1. I have a few others, such as the "KENNEDY MYSTERY BOX" and believe it or not "WITNESS" (Lee Asher) which is just a DVD. What tricks did you guys purchase in the past that just completely lived up to everything you thought it would be as soon as you opened it???

As with fishing lures, you catch more fishermen than fish.

I like that line Steve- very true.
For me: I liked extractor was the gimmick- in terms of tricks not that I know many, but paperclipped is just so good. |

To be honest, for the most part, I try to avoid getting too many single tricks. I'd rather get a DVD with several tricks on it, or better yet, a book with many skills in it for me to learn from. If I'm gonna spend money, I want to get the most for it I possibly can.
That being said, a while ago I purchased an "instant download" from Penguin, which they call the "5 and 1 Transpo." It's basically a simple transpo of a 5 and a 1 dollar bill. Not very technical, but I've done it for lots of people, and it gets great reactions, every single time. I carry it in my wallet most of the time, and it absolutely kills, every time. Love it.

Extractor is one of my best purchases. Nardi deserves a statue for this one

I'd have to say every purchase I've made over the past couple years disappointed me. Except for books. I ordered a book and I got what I expected, a book
Then again, every purchase I make at Wal-Mart pretty much lets me down too. Something that looked like metal on the box turned out to be plastic when I opened it. Lots of things are broken when I get it home or require so much assembly I should have just carved my own out of wood. Rob |

Ash pen is really good. Mislead is pretty good. And regular deck of cards is always good. A TT for bill tricks maybe.

Extreme Burn is probably one of the best things I have bought in the past couple of years. I belong to a country club and we have a happy hour every Friday night with about 80 people attending each Friday. Just tonight, I had three members ask me to perform that for their guests. There is no magic more fun than requested magic!
