I have decided I am gong to start off with the Paul Harris Art Of Astonishment books. But I can't decide on Vol 1, 2, 3........Any Preferances of which volume is the best. I'm looking for something with not all card tricks, a little of both. And with Harry Lorayne, I saw he has a few DVD's called The best of Harry Lorayne collection, and they have about 4 volumes, too. I only want to start with one volume each. I know people will say they are ALL great, but is there one that stands out from the other????? I have to get started reading these!!!! (or watching)

And I am also trying to get the most out of the volumes, is there one that has more material than the other??? Or a bunch of all volumes in one?

Why not start with volume 1 of my "Best Ever" DVD set which, incidentally, you can purchase - should purchase - directly from me. About 35 terrific card routines and effects therein. HL.

Start with The Art of Astonishment Vol 1, then 2 then 3. As for Harry's same thing start with 1 work through, there will be about 50 times more tricks on his DVD series than you can learn anyway. He crams them with stuff.

AOA 1. Lays the foundation to what the rest of the series is about...pieces of strange to unleash the moment.

Skip the Art of Astonishment for now and concentrate on Harrys dvds and books which contain much, much more workable material.
I recommend you get the dvds in 1-3-2-4 order, then look into buying his Classic Collection 1+2. Those dvds and books contain enough material for you to make a living on as a close up magician for probably the rest of your life. |

Volume 1 of AoA has nightshades, which is a great effect, so maybe that one.
