Does anyone have any variations or suggestions on this gem of an effect? Has anyone had any problems with it? Best reactions/worst reactions, etc..

Personally, I don't care for the effect itself, but Jay's variation on the striking vanish is...uh...striking. The applications of this move are endless and, IMO, wasted on the key around my neck effect. I prefer to use it as a coin vanish.

Jay does a quicky effect where he borrows a quarter and a one dollar bill. He bunchs the bill up into a ball, holds the quarter in his left hand and tosses the bill onto the coin. The coin is found to have disappeared and penetrated the balled up bill.
This is a great opening effect for table hopping. Jeff

That sounds interesting. Where is that move/effect shown? On Video? Or Book?
I like it and for Street Work and for any walking Magic it could be built up to be pretty powerful. Thanks BroDavid

The effect Jeff was describing is on Jay's new Revolutionary Coin Magic video.
The effect Platt was talking about is on Sankeytized Vol 1. If my memory serves me correctly Jay credits the striking vanish to David Williamson.

Yes, Jay does (rightly) credit Williamson with the striking vanish.
Obviously, Jay was "struck" by this vanish as well--he uses it in a TON of his routines!

There's another nice variation he does with safety pins. Basically he shows two linked pins. Does a flying shuttle pass while concealing one of the linked pins to show they melt apart. Then he does the striking vanish (actually more like a Sylvester pitch) to show by just throwing a pin at another pin they link together. It looks great. As a kicker the pins are shown to be welded shut. I think it's on Short & Sweet.

I saw Jay Sankey's leaving home with a chain and key instead of a regular piece of string and key. It looked very visual. What do you guys think of this? Has anyone also created or know a routine that makes the leaving home routine a little longer.

I don't think you could perform the striking vanish very well with any type of chain as it would talk during the move. Jay's marketed version includes a piece of super soft ribbon (I want to say it was some type of satin) specifically because it doesn't make any noise.

Wouldn't that noise enhance the effect. It's as if the key clicked onto the chain. I've never done it so I don't know.

I suppose it could Platt if it was just to make one <clink>. I just tried it on a chain and when I did it, it made a zipper kinda noise. Sounded pretty bad.
Perhaps one could work on the handling so it doesn't do this but I'm not so inclined.

Does anyone have any additions to this trick? To make it longer
