Does anyone know where I can get a small device that is easy to conceal and would make a nice crunch sound?

You know, that’s funny, I’ve been looking for the same thing. Tom Mullica once had a gimmick that did just that (for geek bone cracking), but I forgot what it was called. I’ve used one of those plastic stretchy tube kid’s toys (about 4 or 5 inches long, similar to a flexible drinking straw). When you expand or compress it, it cracks and crunches. I think I’ve seen Mac King use a cheap plastic cup under his arm. If there is such a gimmick for sale, someone post a link, because I would sure be interested in freaking out my chiropractor.

I've always used the good old plastic cup under the arm for sound effects. Those clear plastic ones make a GREAT sound! They are easy to find so the effect becomes impromptu.

Biting into hard candy, mints, or pasta works too.
Best joke ever for the crunching sound... You're at a friends house, and you invite their pet cat up onto your lap. It sits down, gets comfy, starts purring. As you are talking with your friend, casually grab the cat's neck with both hands, and twist each hand in a different direction. Execute the crunch-o-matic noise. Who says you need to only use your powers for good? -Ryan Pilling P.S. I sell plastic cups and macaroni noodles in a plastic baggy with instructions for cracking noises. Can't for the life of me remember where I saw this...
...chewing gum!!! And the effect it has is fantastic, sounds like real bones cracking. Don't know if I saw it at a lecture or on video, so I can't morally tell you how. |

I use a 'watch winder' gimmick.

At least two of the sources for Crunch Noises are. Tom B and Bob L will both be at the International Brotherhood of Magicians Convention July 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
I bought one from Tom years ago and used it as part of my Nearly Normal Strait Jacket Routine. They might have them in stock there. You might email them about the cracker and save some shipping cost if you are coming to Kansas City. We got the greatest magic and I'm going to get me some. Harris
