I have loved finding that "old" as this trick is, most laypeople have never seen it and have enjoyed it.
I have made the switch (in large part) now from magic to mentalism, and this effect still, presented with, as Richard Busch says "an unmistakeably mental theme," is as good as it ever was to the layman. However its been decades since this trick hit the shelves. What are some of your favorites like this trick since Do as I Do? Thanks, Rick |

Hi Rick:
I watched a You Tube vid. of Derren Brown-(Sorry, I don't have the link for it)- And believe it is titled: "Derren Brown Effect". 2 specs. have in front of them face-up decks, new deck order. The reveal is that: Both specs. selections are the same. Contacted Derren Brown's office, and asked if this was out in the market. No reply. Then contacted a knowledgeable magic dealer, about this. He believes that Derren has a creative staff that works up some of his effects. So I settled for Dan Paulus' dvd: "Blind Luck/Pure Skill". IMHO: 1 weakness to it. (I can still work with it) Warmest regards, Sixten |

A nice twist on "Do as I do"... is Chad Long's Shuffling Lesson. Wayne Houchin has a performance of it on his site. The performance is done beautifully.

I've been obsessed with "Do As I Do" for ages now. I just saw this video and for the first time and it is brilliant! I love the handling and the presentation. As far as method, I would check out the Mirage Deck. I'm fairly certain he just has two of those in play.

Rick,
You could do a version of "You Do As I Do" with only one deck. The only thing that would remain the same is the presentation. The twist is... since you are into mentalism... that you have the spectator use the acutal deck of cards as you describe what you are doing in your mind. In other words, you say "I'm visualizing cutting the deck in two" as you have the spectator do this with the deck. Bottom line: a hands-off card force as they follow your procedure and the revelation of your mentally "selected" card just before they turn over their selection will get you there. I'll leave the details to you. |
