Hello magic family!
My name is Tim Hingtgen. Magic has been my hobby since I was 10. I've performed under the name Timothy James for the past 20 years, mostly children and youth shows. I'm amazed at the depth of knowledge and experience represented here at the Café. Tim

It is so rewarding to get through a show, after they have all participated in the magic, laughed, and had a good time. Often times I am performing for children and their parents. And parents love to see their children entertained and having a good time, so if you can fool the parents too it's doubly rewarding. Tim

Tim,
Sounds like you and I are from the same mold. In the early 70's I made the school rounds, Cub Scout banquets, Christmas Shows for underpriviledged kids, Birthdays, Special Olympics event, etc. Many of those shows were organized by service organizations like The Elks Club, Lions Club, Moose Lodge, etc. Many times I received minimum pay (gas money, etc), but the biggest reward was to see their eyes sparkle with amazement and entertainment. It always reminded me of the fascination I had as a kid whenever I saw a magician. Today, I only do an occasional birthday for friends and family, but mostly have moved more toward adult close-up as a hobby. You have to love kids to put up with the abuse, but like you said... it's worth it. Even though I'm older now, I still love kids, and don't mind pulling out my Sponge Bunnies to bring a little happiness in their lives. There's not much in these troubled times that can give them that. Dave
