Yep, it's these little punks with no creativity, no friends, no social skills and no life. This is the only thing that allows them to appear like they have a thought in their heads.
Too bad. I actually feel sorry for them, at least some of them, because there will come a point in time in their lives when they realize how stupid and selfish they were. Greg

These reveal videos never bothered me. If you know a little about magic then you can figure the basic premise behind any trick. I don't buy tricks just to learn how to do them but to learn nuances from the creator.
The only people looking up these tricks are people interested in magic. While its morally wrong and hurts the creator, there's no law against it. I do magic to entertain lay people and I've yet to do a trick to a lay person and have them tell me they knew how I did it because they saw it on YouTube. This kind of thing bothers magicians but has no real affect on our audiences.
I'm not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information.

I agree with you, But it still gets me hot under the collar..... I laughed because I asked this kid a legitimate question, with no anger words, why he felt he had the right to do this. All he did was pull my post with out answering and left his own saying something like all magicians that are mad will just have their posts removed, and he didn't care about what he was doing.
Just goes with the youth of today being about worthless. (not all of them are) I watched a kid SCREAM at his mom calling her the 'B' word (LOL), in the middle of a mall mind you and all she kept saying was your gonna get a time out if you keep this up....... then she said Ill buy you a something if you just be quiet....... I couldn't believe this, I stood there with my mouth hanging open. My mother would haved whooped my butt into next week for that. I listened to my ex GF's daughter (who is 19 and out of HS) tell me the last time we hit the mountain, that she liked living off her mom and she was going to do it as long as she could...... I almost kicked out of the car..... Instead I told her mom what she said and her mom decided to put her foot down..... GOOD FOR HER!!!! Just me ranting....... -J-

It's not always about the method (which almost always disappoints magicians) but about the EFFECT. If you were compelled to perform this effect and didn't know how to accomplish it, then $20 seems pretty reasonable regardless of the method used. If you think the EFFECT is rubbish, you wouldn't want to perform it, so you would not have spent the money anyway.

I disagree with Bob and J. Sometimes you see an effect on a demo and conclude that you could use this in your performance. Then you buy it only to find out that the method is totally impractical. So you have wasted $.

Well, there is a difference between the method being impractical and it being (like many) so simple that you kick yourself and say "I paid $20 for THIS? I should have thought of this!"
So, I would agree that it might be a waste of money if the method was impractical, but how many Youtube videos are exposing impractical methods? Most of the Youtube exposers have the opposite philosophy. They are not trying to save people money by showing how impractical the methods are. On the contrary, they feel you shouldn't have to spend your $20 because of how SIMPLE the method is. Besides, we can warn each other not to waste money on an effect by stating that the method is extremely impractical without exposing what that method is.

J, I too agree with your assessment of most of todays youth. Let me tell you, I remember my kid once saying (although he was joking)I'll call DYFUS and my reply was -you gotta make it to the phone. I believe in public beatings and any parent allowing a child to misbehave in public and being disrespectful should be beat as well. The days of Dr Phil and time outs and we need to talk does not work. Todays society proves this. A firm hand and a reponsible parent will raise a respectful child.

You know, too often (and I am generalizing here) new magicians or the kids who are not even wannabes over think an effect to the point that, as Bob says, they get dissapointed by the method. Was this worth the twenty? I think so, because, as many have seen and liked MY clean up, and Chris Lyles handling, it put our brains into thinking mode again. It seems like when SOME are dissapointed by the MEANS to the end, that the effect somehow suffers because of it. Not true all of the time.... If no one knew of the DL, would you pay $20 for the knowledge? Or how about $100 for a TT? How many times have you been fooled at a convention or even just in a magic shop, only to buy it and learn that the 'moves' were ones you already knew but had a slight twist on them? I cannot even count the times for myself when I was younger. I have forgot moves I learned for years only to be completely fooled by the same ones. Michael Pauls magic is like this (IMO). He has fooled me, and I love it. Wonder does not come often for us who have been enticed by magic for quite a few years. I was 6 when I got bit(I think) and now I am 35. 29 years of interest is not a hobby....its a marriage!!!! UPs and Downs, ins and outs, good and bad...... I have seen them all. And I am still a pup to some of the guys here on the Café and out there in the real world.
I do have regrets for purchasing SOME things, but as others have said, and I hold true..... There can be a Time and a Place for ANY effect. This might sound cocky, but I have learned something from EACH effect I buy. Good or Bad. Some effects are not thought out all the time and just need a little kick. Others are downright trash.... But you can learn from them all in some way. It just takes thinking. If you buy an effect and don't like they way its done, think of a better way to do it..... You could surprise yourself. I know I have and will continue to. another two cents from me.... -J-

Absolutely Rizzo! Look at how the rate of child violence has risen since we've gone all touchy feely. And now parents are held responsible for the kids actions in some states. Your kids burn a building down? YOU get to go to jail. Yet you cant REALLY punish them. They get caught stealing? YOU have to go to classes to be a 'BETTER' parent. But no dicipline!!!!! Some times I am glad I am cresting the hill......
