Between running a business, traveling anywhere from 500-1000 miles a week and maintaining a 29 year relationship I have cards in my hands a bare minimum of 3 hours a day! Now after a few years of this I feel I've moved from raw novice to novice with fleeting moments of intermediate abilities!

It depends on who you asking.
If you are asking a layman, they might consider a second deal that you have practiced for 10 hours good, but if you are asking a 20 year professional magician, his standards will be much higher!

Everybody just wait for my DVD which will be titled INSTANT EXPERT and will teach you everything there is to know about gambling and will guarantee you can learn a second deal, middle deal, card counting in 5 seconds. As a bonus you will also learn instant mechanical engineering, philosophy and brain surgery.

It's a whole routine that will have three regular magic tricks and then a demo of the gambling magic and the moves I have learned form the forte DVD's. Just a small piece of advice: don't mix "regular" magic tricks with gambling exposés when setting up a routine (if it's intended for lay audiences). Pick up a copy of Ortiz' "Strong magic" if you want to know why. |

7500 Hours of Practice. To get good and then you don't stop.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Hey Dioxippus, if you really want to get "good" you have to start somewhere and you have obviously started (good for you). I remember years of doing Lorayne's poker deal and feeling good about it, except for the questions about poker and card cheating (time to learn something about it). I knew nothing about it at the time. I read Darwin Ortiz's book Gambling Scams and it had a big impact on me. He stated in that book that one of the most difficult things possible with a deck of cards is the riffle-stack. I had to learn it. I practiced constantely for a yr. before I got it to even work. Now, many yrs. later it is my favorite sleight to perform. You have to pick one that you really like and practice it constantly. One at a time is the best way to go IMO. Pick a move that really appeals to you and practice it until you have it down. I literally practiced the riffle stack for about 2-4 hrs. a day for 6 yrs. till I was confidant with it (in a gambling expose act). I still practice it everyday. Hopefully this gives you some idea as to what it takes. If you feel that I can help you feel free to PM me.

See? That's why I've always said...repeatedly and to the dismay of virtually everyone here...that it's much easier to work on your lying skills than sleights.
Go get yourself a girlfriend so that you are forced to lie to your wife and children on a daily basis. You'll get the hang of being deceptive VERY quickly. Or else you'll lose your family. Start stealing money from work. Think about it all day long: how can I steal money and never get caught? And when your boss shows concern, do not bat an eye. Join a church. Nuff said about that. Plagiarize your term papers, master's thesis, doctoral dissertation. I did. All of these things are much easier than learning to do sleights. Especially if you drink too much. I have 2222222227 posts. That makes me wise. Listen to me roar. |
