Go to http://www.magicsmith.com and type "magnet" in the search box. They have magnets on there specifically designed for ropes. I think they even say, "Rope Magnets." Hope that helps.

It may sound obvious to most of you, but when performing in informal situations (office, bedrooms etc) you may want to be EXTREMELY careful not to get too close to music tapes or floppy disks...

I salvage rare earth magnets from discarded computer hard drives.
These are generally no cost, but can be a hassle to extract from the drive. Sometimes I've resorted to brute force (hammer, tire iron) when I didn't have a screwdriver small enough. But, then again, I'm pretty ... , er... thrifty. cheaptrick
