4 shuffles too much? I've seen 4 riffles executed in 5-6 seconds. A veteran casino dealer should be able to perform the RRSR procedure in 8 seconds. And that is just shuffling. A buddy of mine teaches poker at a dealing school and one of the dealing drills he has his students perform is to see how fast and accurately they can pitch to all 10 spots, and to try to do this in the shortest time possible.
Again, this all depends on your given spot. In many of the bigger money private games they rake aggressively and thus want as many hands as possible, so in this sort of situation they may opt for fewer shuffles. A friend tells a story of one game where the rake was so strong that the kid dealing only gave the deck one riffle, and with one hand he cut the deck onto the leaf while the other hand rakes in the chips! Talk about efficiency. A little known fact, some of these games can rake as much as 25%! You'd make more money just getting a cut of the rake than you would trying to cheat. Skillzilla posted a vid of him stacking a blackjack for 9 hands in 4 shuffles I believe. That's a pretty hefty-sized 21 game. I've never seen such a thing. US casinos typically deal to 6-7 spots. 9 players would seem awfully big for a private game but who knows. At any rate if it were that big a task you're better off getting the work done in more shuffles rather than fewer. Even so, I don't think skillzilla is concerned with all the crap we've been talking about. I take it he's new to card work, bought a few T11 downloads, and is looking to improve his moves. No. 92 and myself are the only ones who've offered any sort of detailed critique on his videos. AMCD just makes arrogant snipes about how it won't fly in "the game." "Don't forget we cut decks before the deal." Pffft! AMCD I wouldn't bark up that tree if I were you, we know you're lacking in that department. |

I was speaking in general terms with my first post. Then AMCD felt the need to accuse me of being one of these phantom French "stalkers" of his, and apparently I'm some no-nothing duffer to him. Thus my rebuttal. A bit harsh? Perhaps, just calling a spade a spade as I see it. About time someone started calling out some of the BS around here.
Like I said I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and am familiar with many of you. And I've seen this type of thread time and again. A newbie comes in looking for some advice and the tough guy experts come in saying it's garbage, won't work in the game, etc... When all it really is is some kid trying to learn card sleights! I just found it a bit irksome. To his credit I thought No. 92's post was quite good. |

Just remember, he stacks 4 aces, which is totally unnecessary in a poker game. Stacking 3 of a kind would be 3 riffles, in his case.

Hey, I've got an idea..... how about getting back to skillzilla's work so some of us might pick up a tip or 2 from those with knowledge and/or experience in this area!

Hi,
I'm far far away from being a good stacker but I'll just say what I know. 1/ I've been in private games where some people shuffle 7 - 8 times before any hand. And their shuffle is far from being that quick. 2/ It all depens on context : in many private games you can riffle cull ten times slower and no one will say anything. Sorry if this is anyone did say this before, Vargas. |

One thing I like about riffle staking is there is no rule against it. What I mean is there is no rule in a game that says you can't drop say 5 on top or whatever.

Magic is an international community: you may as well get used to it. :) Now Skillzilla, I second Tommy's advice but just be aware, as an encouragement, that you are already more advanced than most in your progression. You should know however that lots of casinos offering poker playing tables have abandoned this sort of shuffling so the training will be more meaningful for private parties gamblers.

Stay on your magic french forums (in case you are who I suppose...) and digress for hours about the noise of the second deal. And keep dreaming about true play.
Rest assured I ain't French (thank Heavens!) and this is indeed my first time corresponding with you.
Whatever your problems are why are you involving french people in it in a so negative way ?? I'm really surprised and sad to read such things and words that could be taken as racism in a magic lover's forum and I'm not at all a french nationalist. I'm surely not such a great magician but before working on any sleight, I advise to work on respect for anyone and against the stupidity in general. Chronica from the french ghetto |

Deportment
THE deportment of the successful card player must be as finished as his skill. A quiet, unostentatious demeanor and gentlemanly reserve are best calculated to answer his purpose. It seems to me Lawrence O sets a cool example of this deportment for us all to follow.
