Is Tenyo's What's Next and Dot's Next the same just different manufacturers? Which is better?
I just purchased what the seller advertized as Tenyos What's Next, when the package arrived today the instruction says Dot's Next with nothing about tenyo on the instructions. Did the seller pull a bait and switch? I only buy original magic. Thanks, Dennis |

Be sure the seller advertised it as "What's Next" and not "same as What's Next" which I have seen. I do not know who manufactures Dots Next but based on the fact that they did not call it What's Next it would not be Tenyo and the company is likely knocking the effect off.

Yes, you have to watch such advertising, I've seen it many times myself. Knock offs are often advertised that way as "similar to" or "just like" , or "the same as" the legitimate product. If that isn't there, then the sellor did bait and switch on you. The quality of the Dots Next is far from that of the Tenyo product. Hopefully in the future Tenyo Elite will manufacture and market a high quality What's Next.

It is definitely advertised as Tenyo's What's Next. I even paid more to get Tenyo's and disappointed today when it arrived, I am giving the company a chance to correct it before I call my credit card company.
Father, are you saying that Dot's Next is a better product? |

It is probably no better and likely not as good as as Fr. Photius alluded to. In doing a search I found that Tannen's advertises What's Next in the familiar yellow packaging but they have Nielsen's Dinamo Spot Card. With the Nielsen name and based on the description I think it may be better than the Tenyo version. The weakness with What's Next was the height of the dots used for the climax. The Dinamo advertises flat spots which I have seen before in an older Adams version. Much more deceptive and just as easy to use.

Ok, I heard back and they made a boo boo and recommended the Dinamo at a reduced price, I'm happy!

Dot's Next is an inferior knock off of What's Next.

If you are to compare 'What's Next' with 'Dot's Next' side by side, you can see a world of difference with the quality. I have both and I prefer 'What's Next' anytime.

How about the one from Royal Magic? http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/dubious-do......015.html
Same effect, different color. The ads says it's even made in the U.S.

What's Next=Great,Dubious Domino=garbage.I own both.Bozo the clown couldn't even get Dubious Domino to work right.Every Thanksgiving, channel WGN out of Chicago shows a tribute show to The Bozo Show,The Ray Raynor show, and Family Classics.During the Bozo segment, they show Bozo and Cookie's magic bloopers. The Dubious Domino effect failed miserably.Bozo should take some blame though ,since he obviously did not try this product out before he performed it on stage.Funny to watch though.

How to differentiate between the two if I only have one?
I bought the Tenyo one, used and the seller told me it was Tenyo's tho the instruction comes with it is a photocopied one. The quality of the items is excellent tho, but I just want to know and make sure if mine is the genuine Tenyo. But I have no idea about the differences between the two because this is the only set I have.

Tenyo has been 'knocked off' more than once in the past. I'm not familiar with this effect, but I wouldn't doubt that you got a knock off. Caveat emptor!

The effect has been marketed for many many years. TENYO'S "WHAT'S NEXT" is of good quality. I've used Tenyo's for thirty plus years on the road. I need to replace the prop after about 500 shows (normal wear and tear). Originally, the spots were relatively 'thick' which prompted Abb Dickson to say: "Burnt cookies!" when he showed the prop!!! The recent ones have much better 'thin' spots. Tenyo's prop has a WHITE 'CARD' WITH BLACK SPOTS. highly VISIBLE! Norn Nielsen's is a BLACK CARD WITH WHITE SPOTS. NIELSEN'S IS NOT GOOD IF YOU WEAR A BLACK SHIRT, TUX, VEST, ETC. (THE SPOTS LOOK LIKE THEY'RE FLOATING IN THE AIR!!!!!!! You could solve this if you use WHITE TAPE TO MAKE A 'BORDER' ON THE CARD. A 1" wide tape, when folded along the edges would give you a 1/2" white border on both sides. I made a "cover" (twice the size of the actual prop) of plastic. The cover keeps the spots in place in the prop case. If you have questions, PM me and I'll try to help. The illusion principle of "What's Next" is technically known as the "Josephy Area Illusion".

Ha! I AM getting OLD!!!!!!!!!!!
I just noticed that this thread is four years old~ Oh well, to make this 'critique' complete, I should point out the Royal's "Dubious Domino" is also on a BLACK CARD! if YOU watched the video you saw a guy wearing BLACK AND USING A BLACK PROP. WITH THE CAMERA UP CLOSE, YOU CAN JUST BARELY MAKE OUT THE EDGES OF THE CARD. I'm somewhat surprised that Graham Putnam (FUN, Inc.) didn't catch that!!

My what's next was getting a bit worn so gave it a makeover and a nice counting sheep routine. Hope link works.
