On the Today Tonight/ACA or something, it was talking about a rise in stealing from casinos/players in casinos but I didn't hear this (maybe I wasn't listening). Smile

I know this isn't the first of these scams to hit casinos, but I had heard in some places they have microchips in the chips these days, possibly to try ad eliminate this scam?

Anything worth counterfeiting has Security Features. There is large verity of them, many of which can be duplicated, none of which are easy to duplicate. If you can overcome all of that technical stuff to actually produce them, you still have the default task of passing them and getting clean away with it. Bear in mind the eye and all of that security in a casino. I would not advise trying it as there are easier and safer ways of making money that all of that.

You aere correct, they place Radio Frequency chips in the casino chips which tells the casino if they are real AND their value.

A good example of these chips can be found at the Roulette table. Some tables allow the dealers to sweep all the chips into a hole on the table and the computer senses the chips value and sorts them to put the chips back into play AFTER the players lost the spin.

Although many casinos have introduced R.F.I.D. "chip in chip" technology, every roulette chipper I have ever seen uses light detectors (L.E.D. STROBE) to sort the chips by color/design.

While I have never seen Roulette wheel cheques sorted in this manner, either, any RFID chip installed into the cheques would have to separate them by color, and not monetary value. Since Roulette wheel cheques do not have an assigned value - each player determines the value of each "non-value" cheque by the amount of their buy-in. For example, a twenty dollar buy-in entitles the player to twenty cheques of the same color, each valued at one dollar. Next, the dealer places a "lammer" reflecting $20 on top of a cheque of the same color as that player's. When that player cashes out, he will be paid twenty dollars in "house money" per stack, or one dollar per cheque for each wheel cheque surrendered.

During a casino opening one day in 1999 I saw a woman out of the corner of my eye as she bought-in with a twenty dollar bill but, for some inexplicable reason, I thought I saw the very inexperienced dealer mark her color as being worth $100 per stack, instead of $20. When I saw her happily toss the dealer a few more twenties minutes later I knew that I saw what I thought I did, and that she figured to make a few bucks at this young kid's expense. I radioed surveillance, had them back up the tape, and the correction was made shortly thereafter. The woman fiegned utter astonishment as the lammer was changed from $100 to $20, and she cashed-out twenty minutes later...but she wasn't grinning anymore.

I think its not just casinos... with this recession, theft has gone up all across the board.... even retail is reporting higher inside scamming as well as outside scamming..

Not directly related to the topic but perhaps of interest. I performed at a casino in the UP of Michigan and noticed that at the blackjack table, and I assume other tables they had 2 different colors for each chip denomination.

Upon inquiring I discovered that one was for U.S. currency and the other was for Canadian currency.
