I was wondering does anyone have some good suggestions. Because I am thinking about getting a booth to do gospel illusion and balloons at a forth of July festival.

Are you doing it to take in donations, or just for evangelism? (I don't see anything wrong with either one, but am curious about your goal)
In a couple of weeks, I will begin doing a "typical" Street Act (15 minute act, gather some people, do some silks, some sponges, some rope, and closing with a Linking Ring routine, pass the hat, and start over again.) at a flea market. What is not typical, is that all of my routines have a message with them. The space is only $8.00 a day, so I don't really care if I don't get many donations. But in your case, if the fair booth is expensive and you expect/need the donations in order to help pay for it, you need to gear up for it. By "gear up", I mean that you have to ask for it. Make it plain, and talk about it often enough that people aren't surprised at the idea of showing their support and appreciation by making a donation. I don't think that planting seeds and taking donations to support the effort, are in conflict. Some people will be interested and walk closer to hear, some will not be interested and will walk away. But our job is to tell it like it is! And it is Good News! Kids love balloons, and parents like making their kids happy. And people are less offended by "family values" today, so I think you can do some good work! God Bless, and Go for it! BroDavid

Well to be honest I give myself the guilt treatment. Let me explain. To at least make up for what I have to put out for the space. Which is $50.00 plus for the cost of balloons.
I give myself the guilt treatment because I could easily give the $50.00 toward a ministry and just walk up to people and start doing some of my routines. I could not make enough to cover the cost then feel like I wasted the money. I know, I know. If I spend the money and do gospel routines I will have planted seeds and that is priceless. You know my dear gentelmen and ladies there is a lesson here and you may not see it. I am confused about what to do. The big question is what would God want me to do. To spend or just to give it out to a ministry. Hmmmm. Do you see how easy it would be if I could be sensitive to what God wanted and not second guess myself on what I feel is God's voice. I had to work myself through this when I started doing table top work at a resturant. I have made my routines where they are very clownish. I had to deal with the fact I started out in children's ministry with balloons and illusion. only to end up using it for extra cash. Don't get me wrong I still go gospel at church and VBSs. Or just hanging out at the mall. By the way, I've got Guy who can make hot rods with the gospel routine made for one with the colors I wanted. Gold for heaven, black for sin, red for Christ's blood, blue for repentence, white for a clean heart, green for growth. The Force falls on Christ's blood to change to all red jewels. I love using it. It is small and is all ready for use. If anyone is intrested I can give you the website. |
