I notice you didn't answer me about Lance Burton's "master" title : is it because you have no idea how he won this "title" ?
After reading your post again, I think we are not speaking of the same thing : When I speak about the term "master", I speak about the level of the master, not about his title : you don't need to have any document to have the 'master level' (you have the level or you have not). But you need to have one if you want to have this title. For example, Einstein was a genius... but he hasn't got any school document to prove it (did you know that he very bad in maths in school ?). This is the same for a 'flourish master' : you can be a flourish master without winning any competition or without having a document. If you don't believe me this time, just ask anyone if Einstein was a genius or not : do you really think they will say "no, he wasn't because he didn't do the Genius Prophecy Challenge" ? PERIOD |

I would think that if a title was bestowed on a person in any field that it would have to be universally accepted by everyone in the field. The title would indicate a broad and all encompassing knowledge in the field, agumented by progressive creativity. Talent is one thing, but to be a master at anything requires extensive understanding and appreciation of the field. To willingly exclude any aspect of the field is to deny the title of master.

Getting a title of MASTER for flourishes can ONLY be done through the competitions. This is the rule for this art as decided upon the founders of this art, and is accepted by the entire community.
YOU CANNOT CALL YOURSELF MASTER WITHOUT EARNING IT in the art of flourishes or XCM!!!!!!! ok, well you can, but you would be disrespecting the community and all of those that worked to earn the title and be a liar, a cheater, and be known as a wanna be to the community, and probably be dismissed as a member of the artform. This is what happened to Cap Casino and the Buck Twins. The same happens in martial arts. I've done some research and the title is EARNED. Same with a master craftsman title: To EARN a MASTER craftsman title, you must complete an evaluation as well! http://www.ozs.si/mojstri/html/master_exams.htm Phantom |

Dear phantomace,
> Getting a title of MASTER for flourishes can ONLY > be done through the competitions I AGREE with you. I shall repeat what I said in my previous post if you don't mind : In my opinion, there is a difference between : #1 : having the level of a master #2 : having the "master title" You can obviously have the level of a master without having the "master title". For example, I think that Jerry Cestowski is a flourish master although he didn't win the two challenges you are talking about. Do you really think Jerry is considered "a liar, a cheater, and is known as a wannabe" ? I don't think so... but what do YOU think ? By the way, I'm still waiting for your opinion on Lance Burton "master magician" title. |

Jeez... I can't believe people are arguing over something like this.
People CAN be considered masters in flourishing regardless or not whether he/she has taken part in the Ulmen, Metz Prophecy, etc. That is ENTIRELY different from having the title of a "master". One is a title, the other is a status, or level. For example, there definitely are people who have the potential to complete the Ulmen, Metz, etc. However they do NOT compete for whatever reason. Does that mean that they are not masters at what they do?

They are only masters if they can complete the trials. The trials set the standard for master. There are people out there that you all are calling master that couldn't even past the first 3 steps much less complete all 13 to be a master.
If you are going by that analogy, then yes, if they have the skills to complete all 13 steps of the Ulmen trials, but haven't taken them, then I may consider them a master. But I know that NONE of the people that claim to be masters can even get close to the skill level of master as set by the flourish community. Or are you saying Cap CAsino and the Buck Twins could complete the Ulmen Trials if they took the test? LOL LMAO Yeah right.lol Phantom |
