I have noticed in recent weeks that, both here on the Café and in other forums I visit, that the average quality and intelligence of posts on a given topic decreases with the number of posts a thread has.
For example, this topic starts with out with an interesting topic about fake newspaper articles in marketing but ends up being petty name calling after only two pages http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=44&54 Or over here, a reasonable moronic topic manages to descend even further across it's nine pages. Although, to be fair, I do get the feeling the author of the topic is more interested in gaining attention and maximizing the number of posts then actually engaging in any sort of real discourse. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......=251&233 This inverse correlation between the variables of number of installments and intelligence of installments can also been seen in the Police Academy movies. The first film is reasonably clever and funny. Each successive squeal decreases in intelligence and quality ending in the awful Police Academy: The Series in 1998. Therefore, I refer to this trend as "Guttenberg's Law" and will endeavor for this point to draw attention to it's use What thread do you feel best exemplifies Guttenberg's Law? (See how long it takes for some on to post 'this one') |

If a thread incites an argument in which the parties involved aren't going to change their mind, they quickly devolve into what I call the "dead horse syndrome" wherein both sides involved in an issue continually "beat" the other side with "facts" but they might as well be beating a dead horse for all the good that they are truly accomplishing.
I am not sure that Guttenberg's Law has a cure. |

You're all ignorant ******s and only my opinion is viable!
Oh, wait. Never mind. I meant to wait until this thread had three or more pages before I posted that.

The whole thread, that I participated in, about the pirates is a joke in itself. Samurai does a great job at driving me insane with his bs.

Movable type does seem to have put significant language into the hands of those who cannot form a cogent thought on their own.
I'd have to agree that the longer an ill formed argument is permitted to accrete the larger its odds of becoming inflammatory.

If you are going to invent a new law like Guttenberg's Law, I suppose May 1 is the day to do it:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_offi......Law-Day/ "In 1958, President Eisenhower established Law Day as "a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law." Each year on Law Day, we celebrate our commitment to the rule of law. That great commitment is enshrined in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, and has been reaffirmed by the words and deeds of great Americans throughout our Nation's history." Happy Law Day to all you American folk.
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

That may be generally true; however, some of them start off pretty bad right from the start:

That was quick. Is there a guttenberg squared law?
