So shocked to hear about Danny Gans. He was 11 time Entertainer of the Year in Las Vegas. A true magician with the voice. He was only 52 years old.

That is too bad. I have no idea what he did but I know if a show on TV showed Vegas they'd show his name on a board some where. What did he die from?

That is too bad. I had no idea what type of act he did. Breathing problems could be from an alergy or heart failure (my wife had heart failure and she had major breathing problems which is why I took her in to the hospital). Well, he had a huge name even among those of use who had no clue what he did.

Sad news. A promo of the Danny Gans show in Las Vegas:

I thought it was pretty common for it to go dark when any big name passes? I think many poeple had heard of him, just couldn't pick him out of a line up. RIP

I'm a little curious as to how someone can have great Vegas fame, yet still be an unknown in the rest if the U.S.
Any ideas?

Doug, there are entertainers that own their turf. I will be honest, I thought until a year ago that Danny Gans was made up because every movie and TV show in Vegas showed his name on cabs and bill boards. I figured he was like a 555 number. Unlike my amigo Kcg5 I think beyond Vegas and being interviewed on TV that Danny Gans was unknown outside of Vegas. He was just one of those guys you had to go to Vegas to see perform, kinda like Wayne Newton (now I prepare for the "Wayne Newton played in the Nebraska State Fair in 1995" responses but you get my drift). The only time I've ever seen him other than a name in print is on some reality show where he welcomed some people who were using his stage for something.
In Reno there seems to be a version of him with the last name of London who is a singing impersonator. |

I guess that clarifies it a bit. I can relate to the Wayne Newton example.

I was away from TV and computer all day. At a birthday party tonight the topic of Vegas came up and a friend asked me if I knew him. (They think I know every entertainer in Vegas.) I was really really shocked. He was a huge talent and only moved over to the Wynn a few months ago I think.

Danny didn't belong to this band, so he had to four wall his show. If you don't live in Vegas, that means he had to produce it himself independent of the casinos. Funny, he was voted entertainer of the year 12 times in a row and yet they still would not except him as one of theirs. It's too bad that it took is death to get people to know who he is. Now what we get in Vegas is one Cirque after another with no variety. And they wonder why Las Vegas is in a recession. |
