Recently I need to perform in some Japanese clubs, my magic is okay ( I think ), but my Japanese is very bad ( I started learning it few months ago )...
So, what kind of tricks would you suggest I perform in those clubs? Thanks a lot! Michael Lam

I'd stick with visual magic that is self explanatory:
sponge balls or rabbitts I.T. effects (floating credit card, etc.) ring and string visual coin effects (matrix, flurry, etc.) Hopefully this will give you some ideas. |

Doing magic in a second language is always difficult, but I find people to be very forgiving of problems with tense or pronounciation, especially when you perform for them.
I married a beautiful young woman from Mexico and we went for a three week vacation last August. It was a way for me to meet the part of the family that does not live here. I speak only a tiny bit of Spanish and tend to get sentences wrong, verbs, etc. but last year on a trip to Morelia Mexico I performed for the children using only a word here or there to punctuate the visual effect and they still ask when I am coming back. Very popular are spongeball (the universal language), chop cup, benson bowl, vanish of hank in TT, torn and restored napkin with explaination (I hate to say sucker finish) and some coin manipulation. Magic that is visual will transend the language barrier and your personality and love of the people you perform for will take care of the rest.

Gimmicked tricks I might go with include Color Deception Brass, Pen through bill, Silver Shifter, or a C/S/B transpo.
I would stay away from Deep Astonishment. I don't think it would work well in Japanese. I agree with nalu_magic on the matrix and flurry routines. Chink-a-Chink or Ammar's Shadow coins are very visible too. Scott

Be a mime with your usual stuff. Throw the patter out the window.
bike during the day,
do magic at night, and very early the next morning, homework. |
