As A Professional corporate entertainer I use Triumph-gimmicked
in many top closeup events at Hotels/conferences The standard routine plays so strong its really all you need. The fact its gaffed makes no difference to the fun & entertainment going on around the effect and at no time do the audience even consider this.. Cheers |

All of these decks (and many more not mentioned over the past 100 years) are stolen from Theodore DeLand's "Inverto," which came out in August 1914 and was priced at $1 ($23 in today's money). Double backed cards were completely unknown in the US before DeLand reinvented them when he created the "Two Card Monte" in 1913. (Hofzinser had used them in Austria in the mid 1800s, and German dealers like Conradi had sold them, but they were unknown in the US.) "Inverto" is the first trick anyone in the US had ever seen in which a double-backed card is actually used in conjunction with the deck. It fooled everyone. The trick has been stolen and marketed so many times by so many people with no credit to DeLand that it's hard to believe. You'll be able to read about all of this, and much more, in my book on DeLand which I hope to have out later this year.

Is that before or after the Jennings' book Richard? You know the one where he takes it easy.

I loved reading that history. I didn't know it was DeLand that invented the Two Card Monte. Looking forward to the book.

I am a complete beginner who until the last few days knew nothing about the history of this. I ordered the Triumph Deck and DVD at a good price from an eBay seller on the strength of Mr. Lovell's teaser video, as I am trying to master the original Triumph trick with a regular deck and the trick deck version looked pretty awesome. The set arrived yesterday and on opening the cards I immediately realized that a lot of us could put together such a deck ourselves for less cost. (I just went a little nuts and through an Amazon reseller and have on order decks of DBs, DFs, and blanks in various colours and configurations at good prices including shipping, so I will be set with gaffed cards for quite a while for relatively little money.) I am not that magically clever yet and just figured after Simon's vid that the cards were specially treated like a phantom or mental photography deck. The secret is actually simpler! Anyway, it quickly became clear that one pays here for the tricks and not the cards, and I find the DVD quite excellent and a good source of inspiration to invent other effects with the deck. The owner of my local magic shop sells a Cheek-to-Cheek deck in blue Bike stock for almost half the price of the Triumph set, but he has found that buyers have wanted the newer Magic Makers offering anyway. I do know that the deck itself is not a Magic Makers innovation, but the package really is quite good and I don't begrudge a little extra money to support the product and a company that offers a lot of neat stuff.

I still have my UF Grant Cheek to Cheek deck somewhere in storage. I bought it from Tannen's back in the mid 1970s. Great fun!
