The families who fled Cuba when the Castro regime confiscated their plantations took their tobacco seed and, more importantly, their knowledge and love of tobacco growing and cigar making and relocated to other locales with similar growing conditions. As a result, they put out cigars that not only rival their Cuban counterparts but, in some cases, easily surpass them. But again, that's merely one cigar smoker's opinion. |

Put me down as a citizen that can (and does) travel to Cuba, buy and return with their cigars, all legally. Well worth the trip, which often includes a tour of the cigar making factories.
I'm a non-smoker after about 30 years of enjoying the habit, but an occassional Cuban cigar drizzled ever so slightly in Cuban rum does taste mighty fine on a warm summer's evening. From the country that Can ada. RJE |

Can dried out cigars be saved?
Only if they're baptized. (I really tried, but I just couldn't resist that one...)

That's why I smoke crack, a lot less hassle (And less people wanting to baptize crack pipes).
You never hear anyone complain about their crack going dry (Well, not that kind of crack), although you will hear some people complaining about it getting too wet(Yes, that kind), also there is no need for a humidor. So stop going on tangents!

I have had as many bad Cubano's as good so for my money I prefer a good Dominican smoke with the Arturo Fuente line being my fave!

When Castro took over Cuba, he started using good tobacco land for growing food crops (a plan that didn't work too well). As a result of this, and the fact that several prominent tobacco growers fled Cuba, taking some choice seed and themselves to Honduras, Dominican Republic and Jamaica, Cuban cigar quality dropped. From Castro's takeover until fairly recently, the "good Cuban cigars" were being made in Honduras, Dominican Republic and Jamaica! My fave was the Hoyo de Monterrey panatella.
