A magician showed me a self-working trick and I would like to know what are the origins (name and creator).
ps : excuse my maybe approximative english... a brief description: The magician, from a shuffled deck, makes several piles of cards still there is only a few for a talon. The spectator freely chooses 3 of the piles. The top cards of these piles are shown and the total of their value is made. From the other part of the deck (other piles plus talon) the same number of cards as this total is removed. That leaves 16 cards. This number was predicted. what is this trick? ps : I don't look for the working, which I know. |

I realize this isn't exactly what you have described, but is it close?

It sounds like a variation to: "The Puzzler"/By: Mr. Bob Short?

It is Roland Hamblen's 'Necromantic Calculation' described in Hugard's "Encyclopedia of Card Tricks" (1938).

Thank you very much everybody.
bodybyfood : no, it's not the same principle. I think I have to buy Hugard's book (these old books are definitely the source). |
