I'm thinking of adding a male Eclectus Parrot to my show, I want to use him at the end of my dove act and other magic tricks aswell. The question is do you think a production of an Eclectus is as powerful as a McCaw under a lot of silks?
I don't want a McCaw because from what I hear and understand about them they like to scream and Eclectus don't. Thank you, Jeff

Macaws don't scream. They just talk a lot.
As for any parrot "not screaming" good luck with that. Let me know if you find one. The truth is the best parrot to use in a show is one that enjoys being in the show and 'performing.'

The screaming is just what I heard from people that own both parrots, they recomended the Eclectus.
I just want to know if it an eclectus will have a strong impact to end a dove routine?

Believe me the Eclectus male or female will scream. They are doing an unnatural act. So if they are having a bad day. Yeah they will scream. And they are loud!!!!!!!! And they are a lot of work. So think really hard about getting into the big birds.

Start small with something like a sun conure, they are bright and a bit loud, you can get use to the screaming and decide if you want to step up to something bigger
It is good you are giving this a great deal of thought. Birds look great in magic, but your parrot will scream. You should consider how you will transport the parrot to your distant gigs [complicated and expensive to ship them.] Also remember, a parrot is a living creature and depends on you for her happiness. They require tropical temperatures and special food. Their care is not so cheap and if they get sick you have to take them to a special avian vet. I had a cute little green conure and the screaming was like a drill through sheet metal! She was a hand-fed baby and just a lover, but I actually had to give her to my brother because the screaming was so constant and loud. Anyone who knows me would be surprised that I ever gave a pet away. I am one of those "forever homes" the animal shelters talk about. But the noise was horrible! Why not ask a magician who uses big parrots in their show. Mike Ching in Hawaii uses big birds and you should be able to find him on google.com |

I was just reading Chet Womach's info on Birdtricks.com about the Eclectus and he says that they are normally a quite bird, but if not in good mood can be noisy.
I was think that the bright green colors of the eclectus might stand out on stage and when he flies arounds the theater with the red underside on his wings. The main question is that the Eclectus size ranges from 12 to 15 inches with a wingspan of 2 to 2 1/2 feet with bright green feathers, do you think that this bird can be a great ending to a dove act? If you don't know what type of bird this is here is a picture: http://www.parrot-bird.com/eclectus-pictures.html

This is why I use a Ball Python as the finale animal. While she looks threatening and imposing she's actually easier to deal with than the doves. She makes no noise and when she's loaded up in the hiding place she just chills and relaxes. Why not shop around other areas of the animal kingdom?

Thank you to everyone's input!
Alexo I have looked around at other animals to produce and keep finding myself going back to parrots, and for some reason when I saw a Eclectus at a bird shop here in Denver, I fell in love with the colors and sweetness of the bird. Then I heard about all of the things you can teach them and I was sold, I didn't buy the bird yet I have to prepare the cage first and I wanted to get some feedback on if this bird is a good investment first.

I own an electus. My electus is very quiet and wont scream at all. It all depends on the birds upbringing.

Females do scream. They also get a bit mean about two years old. At that age they are ready to breed. The females are a bit more on edge.

Jeff,
Honestly to say , get an electus parrot chick and take care of him with love. When he is 1.5 years old,he is actually ready for performance. Like what you say Jeff. when you see the male electus fly , audience jaws are going to drop. The wings colour especially the underwing colours are very beautiful. You need to give them good feather plumage diets. Electus sometimes have Temperamental character. As long as he have enough toys and there are rotation of toys changed weekly and fresh diet , bath given to him , he will be very happy. My electus will get aggressive only if he is not given food on time. He is a gourmet like me. Like father , like son. If my electus screams , I just need to stare at it and show my finger and say NO and it will stop. He will scream at wee hours at 2 a.m or 4 a.m. I am living in the ground floor and sometimes cockroaches crawl into my electus cage and he is scared of cockroaches and he wil call for help. I will to his rescue. I have put my electus in production boxes and he has yet to scream so far.I am going for Dave Womach Parrot Production bags next. Once handfed and grown with us, the electus thinks that you are the daddy of him and he feels comfortable only with you.I have brought my electus for birds gathering BUT he is still very uncomfortable with other electus. I guess I have won his heart. I prefer an electus compared to a Macaw. In Singapore Macaw are 5 times expensive than Electus. Macaw tail feather are very long. If you are going to use them for bag productions , please consider as its not easy to hide the tails.Electus have very short tails compared to Macaw. Kyle , You should get a cockatoo bro.Goodswill has a few on sale now. Parrots are lifetime companion and to my knowledge every move you make towards the electus will keep him reminded. So avoid negative reinforcement training. Dave Womach DVDs are good for training. All the best for your act.

Thank you Paradize for you great info you gave me, I think my heart is set on getting an Eclectus!
Andy, I have heard that the female is more tempermental than the male, at first I was thinking of the female because of the colors, then the guy at the bird shop told me of temper! My mind was made up, male not female! LOL Paradize I love the pic of the blue Eclectus!
