Ah yes, I always get you two mixed up. It's been a couple of years since I watched the dvd. Anyhow, cheers to both you and Charlie. And Justin. Two outstanding CIBs.

Prohibition can also be done in the spectators hand, on their leg, on the couch, I do Prohibition, and I love it...but I'm struggling to see how on earth it can be done in a spectator's hand. |

Hey Ross- Justin did this for me, on my hand, at a convention this year - and it was incredible. Basically, he set the cap on my hand, smacked the bottle down on it and the cap went inside! Because of the force of the bottle hitting my hand, I had the sensation of feeling the cap go though the glass. I was in shock for several hours afterwards.

Ross,
In the Prohibtion DVD Charlie J. goes over a version where you allow the spec to "hold" the bottle by inserting their thumb into the opening as opposed to sealing the bottle with the cap. (keep in mind that I haven't watched the DVD in quite some time...so if I'm wrong someone please correct me!) However, I'm not sure what the reference to the couch/leg was all about. I think they were confusing Prohibition/Captured and mixing up the effects? I personally have never attempted performing the effect this way. I believe that's what the poster was refering to. Hope this helps! Respectfully, Rochaz

Oh, sorry. Being familiar with both effects myself, I'd have to say that doing Prohibition on a spectator's hand would be impossible. With Captured, it works very well.

Let me make one thing very clear as many on here have tried to down play Captured. I am very glad you all like prohibition. Great! But Captured was born out of a dislike of the cap in bottle effects that were already on the market..prohibition included. I do not wear magnetic rings so I wanted a cap in bottle that first eliminated that. Do I sacrifice on the set-up? Yes, but the reward of doing the penetration ON THEIR hand is worth the sacrifice and as david regal jist reviewed Captured in reel magic he says the same thing.
Captured is the ONLY CAP IN BOTTLE on the market today you can do this with PERIOD! Now until another version comes out by someone not happy with what is on the market and a method comes into play that eliminates the set-up, Captured will remain victorious in that category. Give each product its due. JM WTF No Limits |

Each of these can be done and have been, although I would imagine that they are not as fool proof as the original method. Charlie has another version that is even better than Prohibition but falls into this category of not fool proof, but when it works it's the most incredible sight you will ever see. I'm not sure when doing the cap in bottle in the spectators hand became the ultimate do all, I guess after Captured came out, so we conceed that if this is your ulitmate goal then Captured is the effect for you. I just bought this based on Regal's review in Reel Magic. I like him. He's honest and frickin' talented. So I trust his opinion.
I Watched the DVD. Liked it. A lot. And can't wait to try it. It is what magic aspires to be. Simple. Direct. Easy to understand. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that the certain something that you are given is only half of what is explained in the DVD. Yes, you can still perform the effect. But to do the entire routine, exactly as shown, you need to go out and buy something else. Why? Did I get a defective package? We are talking a few dollars of stuff to make this package complete. This is probably another post since it's not directed toward this effect, but so many DVDs are coming out now that are nothing more than craft instructions. C'mon guys. I work over 50 hours a week. Magic is my stress relief. I don't want to go out and hunt things down or go all Martha Stewart and have to make stuff. Okay, there. I vented. Maybe my package was a fluke, and to be fair, you do get everything you need to perform the basic trick...it's just the "clean up," that suffers. But that still doesn't excuse all of the losers out there who sell you a full priced DVD, and then turn their presentation into a kindergarten arts and crafts class. "Okay, for this, you'll need a glue stick, some double-sided tape, some..." Shut up already and make the thing for me. I'm a grown up for heaven's sake. Wow. I just went off again, didn't I? And I actually like Justin Miller and Kozmo. A lot! I have every issue of Reel Magic...the best buy in the industry, hands down. And almost all of Justin's effects. I guess I'm just using this post as a vehicle to vent my rage against the so-called "magic creators" who rush their ideas to market, and expect every purchaser to be a manufacturer. So now, after trying your patience...my verdict...buy this effect. No, I haven't performed it yet. But I know my limitations, and they are many. This is something I actually can do. And do well. So simple, you can really play it up with a strong, albeit short, presentation. Highly recommended.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Reviving this thread as the main one has been locked - as lockdown measures are about to be lifted I wanted to have another go at this in order to perform this when bars reopen and I remember that I struggled a lot with the setup a while back and stopped doing it... and I still struggle now... would anyone be able to give some advice on how to do the setup, I really don't manage to achieve the result that we're supposed to get to...
I watched the video again and it looks like the work is already done when Justin "shows" how to do it... he doesn't actually show how to do it, it seems it's already done and he just prentends he's doing something... would anyone have any advice on how to do the set-up? I also tried Ray Ben's method for those who might know it (who also has a cap in bottle effect) and he explains a slightly different method which is a bit easier but still doesn't work really well... So if anyone had any piece of advice that would be very much appreaciated as I really like the effect otherwise - feel free to PM me of course if it's too much exposure explaining on the thread. Thank you! |

In case it's of any help to anyone... I eventually managed to do the set-up after a lot of practice and the advice I would give to do it is:
1) start with Rey Ben's method (PM me if you don't know it) 2) then continue/finish with the method taught by Justin 3) actually practice first without the bottle (on a table), I found it helpful to "feel" what is happening I've done it a few times already and it really fries people, doing it in their hand is a real convincer. Hope the above helps. |

Rey Ben's routine is slightly longer but the method is (overall) similar. I think I prefer Captured though, the handling is slightly cleaner/easier imho and I feel the penetration looks slightly better. But yes well worth checking Rey Ben, I love his silk to bottle penetration as well!
