Ah, the price of success…
sometimes the business of Show-Business (or is that Business-Show) is overwhelming. And sometimes working as a Bizarre/Storytelling Magi, I just want to dump the whole thing and become a plumber. And sometimes I celebrate that “meaningful” magic can be commercial and accepted. So, What do you do… when you have a showcase to demonstrate your talents and skills… and then it works so well, all the cast members start getting bookings that conflict with the showcase running? Panic. Celebrate. Both? That’s the new wave for “Eccentrics of San Francisco’s Barbary Coast” our magical escapade now in our third-month! http://www.sanfranciscomagicparlor.com/entertainment.html I love doing this every Friday and Saturday, but some days we feel like the producers in “The Producers” and wonder how to juggle all the hats there are to wear… Like I said…. a Paradoxical Showcase Conundrum… Magically, Walt |

This will be stating the obvious but...
One has to ask, "Why do I want to do this show?" Is it the love of live theatre? Exploring new terrain in theatre and magic? Building a career for bigger things in the future? Getting gigs now? All are valid and none should be looked down upon. One can have mulitiple reasons for producing their theatre magic shows. But, whichever choice one does make, one also has to face the sacrafices. Doing it purely for the Art, may mean no cash to live on so, it's something that is worked around one's working schedule. Doing it for building a career, that again means not a lot of cash now but with enough patience and sweat great things will come one's way. Doing it for gigs now? That means doing shows on the weekend may not be the best choice. Maybe Thursdays? Mayb Mondays? This may also mean that for some people artistic risk may not be a great choice. Which are the priorities one wants to uphold? Either way, sacrafices will have to be made. And, if one does this for a mulitiple number of reasons, then those sacrafices are going to have to be maintained and managed. One day it's this sacrafice. Then next week it's that sacrifice so the week after you have room for the other sacrifice. Much like a relationship, which are the sacrifices you are willing to make. If both of your sacrifices match up well and aid in making you a happier and more fulfilled person. Then that's probably the right choice for you. C PS ...and being a producer sucks....

You are absolutely right Christian,…
all four of us are doing the show, for all those reasons! For Art, to give back to our City, for exposure, all those. And we’ve been pleased and humbled by our success. And that success has led to gigs…. So we’ve got to work out how to handle the shows, which brings me back to the other thing you’re absolutely right about <grin> being a Producer can suck! Best of continued success with your show as well! Walt |
