Keep your eyes open for Martin Breese's 'Cyclops Box'. Wonderful apparatus!!! Check with Martin for details at 'Martin Breese International'. Read my review in Martin's current Newsletter or in the forthcoming Newsletter from Angelo Stagnaro.

Don't you mean, "Keep your eye open"?
Sorry, couldn't resist
Some think Houdini used trap doors in his act, but he was just going through a stage.

Nice one! It is a lovely idea that Martin has developed, in fact, in 40 years of
studying magical principles, I have not seen anything like it. The closest to this principle was probably Tony Corinda's 'Money Box'. Anything placed in the 'Cyclops Box' can be identified instantly. The possibilites are endless: Psychometry tests to Card/Esp revelations, Bank-Nite, to a no-brainer version of Max Maven's: 'Kurotsuke'. Steve Shufton has come up with some excellent ideas with the box. Not cheap (though I think it's worth double the price), but then again, quality is never cheap. A certain collector's item of the future - thjis box will one day be commanding the same prices that rare original Anverdi items are today. It's a unique universal piece of apparatus, and very highly recommended! |

Are the mirrors not very suspicious???

Dr. Eamon,
what you say about the mirrors perfectly "mirrors" my concerns. Many of us have mirrored windows in our houses and cars. (I for one could never understand why you would want them in your car except in and antique car lacking air conditioning) So most peole are aware of mirrors you can look through only from one side, mirrors who become mirors or darken only under certain light conditions, and quite a few might even know there are windows that you can change from opaque to tranlucent with the help of an electric charge. The box sure looks beautiful but it does look like having "windows". So presentation it seems is what you will have to use to keep the spec from guessing the workings. Anyone having one, please offer us some info. Kaarlo von Freymann Helsinki Finland

They are very popular, I found this message on the web!

I watched the Youtube video and it seems like Martin takes a long time staring at the "mirror" in the back. Is it that difficult to get the peak? Is it the lighting? I would be greatly appreciative if somebody who has it has an opinion on whether getting the peak is as difficult as it looks in the youtube video?

I was wondering that myself after watching the demo.
He does seem to take a long time & it looks a bit awkward. Mike |

So, what are the thoughts with this one ? My eyesight is not the best, so is the peek as awkward as it possibly looks on the demo?
Thanks Mach |

The peek is nowhere near as awkward as it looks on the demo. You can do it quite easily as you hand the box to a spectator to hold.
You are probably not going to want to do it with a playing card like Martin does in the demo; there are much stronger uses and you don't need a £200 box to identify a chosen card. And to peek a drawing on a business card you might as well use a peek wallet. The strength of the Cyclops Box is that you can use borrowed objects. They can pretty much place any object inside the box and you know what it is. It works best with a small item - something they can hide in their hand rather than an object that fills the whole box. They can even place two or three small objects into the box at the same time and you can identify all of them. With more that three items in the box it becomes difficult to make them out because they start to obscure each other, so I'm not convinced by the claim that you can do a Psychometry style routine with half a dozen objects at the same time. That may have been possible using the original larger box, but it's pushing it with the current smaller one. The best use for the box is identifying any small object that's sealed inside, and for that it works really well. |
