Hi Guy!
How do you do? Thank you for coming to the Café'! Maybe I'll start out with a few questions on silverware bending: 1. There are so many techniques and different ways, how does one go upon choosing the best material? You have a 3 set DVD on the topic - do you really use so many methods at your shows or did you get to just a couple 'safe' methods that only those you use? 2. How does one construct a silverware bending routine? What are the things that are needed to be taken into consideration when thinking about - with what effect to start, with what to end, how many bendings to do that will be the right amount, which bendings are more effective than others? 3. Do you find that a lot of patter and explanations are needed at spoon bending or does the effect speak for itself? 4. It seems that so many spoon-benders do the twist and the spoon breaking at the end. Why? Are these 2 effect so strong? Isn't the twist kinda hard for audiences to see, and even sometimes to understand at all what happened? OK, I'll leave it here I think... Thanks! Simcha |

Hi Simcha - shalom!
Thanks for the questions. here are my answers: 1.Many methods are coming for many different situations. When you have the knowledge, guts and experience you know how and when to apply them. I do not use them all ... I choose according to the situation, time, venue etc... 2. Sometimes less is more... all depend in what you need to achieve. Doing a routine is like planning to build a house, strategies a war or just planning a production budget... you need to know what is your goals... and first of all who are you as a character. That goes to all routines not just metal. There are many styles, some are more magical some are more spiritual - all depend of who are you? when you know to answer that question - the rest will come! In general I would say do 1 - 2 or maybe 3 good things than 5 not so strong effects... also know how to play your audience after all it is entertainment. 3. lots of text depend on who is telling it. You have one lecturer that will make his audience sit on their edges for 2 hours, and another who you will find 50% in deep sleep... if you know how to talk, and you have what to say - go for it... but if you are not a good talker then minimize your words and stick to visuals. There is no black or white... there is whats right for YOU! 4. Twist or brake are just 2... many do because they are strong and also this is what they know... you see Tamariz perform a card effect for 2000 people theater - and everyone is engage? how come... its not the cards - its Tamariz... we need to remember - method is the small part, effect is the medium part - YOU is the main part of the show! When I work 2000 - 3000 people I work with video screens... but this is just so people will feel comfortable. Sometimes the effect is not in what the audience can see... rather the reaction of the person who is next to you transfer to the audience. hope that helps... thanks G |

Since the emphasis you put on persona, how would you describe the character that you "play" when you perform ? And how did you create this persona ?

My character was developed over the years - it took me years to understand who am I, after I have tried to be many others. I play myself... what a development... I am just a simple person who learned the human mind from many different perspectives and I am hear to explore it with you. this is where I was and still comfortable ... and this is where YOU should be (not this character - but the confidentiality of finding who you are) - something you believe in and something you feel comfortable with... not trying to be someone else... just be YOU - unless you are a great actor and can get into other characters (which most magicians are not)
