For those of you who prefer the chop cup, is it because it's generally easier for spectators to follow than the typical three cup routine? I don't use the chop cup myself, so would be interested in hearing what you think.

A lot of people use it because it's a quicker routine and you can get to the final loads quicker, obviously you have less to carry too.
I tend to use it for less formal type of presentations too and my C/cup routine is more hands on for the participants. |

For strolling, the chop cup is hard to beat. It doesn't take so much time that it gets boring.
The reset is fast, and it plays well.

I have always had a better response with the Chop Cup then Cups and balls, especially with those that are not into magic. I will admit though, I have done the Chop Cup for many years and just started with the Cups and Balls last year.
Thanks, Bruce |

My answer would be the same as the above posts. And with an additional container of a different type, I have more possibilities to make the routine more entertaining and different.

I would have agreed with that but recently I picked up an aluminum set of cups the same size as the Adams' plastic cups, and have been getting great response table hopping with them. Of course it needs to be snappy but I think that's true with the bigger cups too.

I developed a chop cup routine that turned into a C&B routine, lol. I just can't win.

I am still new at both and own a lot of cups from RNT. What I have learned so far is that chop cup is much easier to learn than C&Bs, but C&Bs can be a lot more Artistic if your routine has the right balance. The right balance being not too short or too long.
If you want to learn both and save money, try buying a combo set of cups, then you will be able to do it all. I honestly think it is best to learn both, just go back an forth with the two styles, then you will eventually discover what you like best. I have regular size chop cups and mini size cups, sometimes I prefer the mini-size cups rather than the regular size cups. As you can see this is the reason why I have so many cups from RNT. It's the same with the C&Bs, I have regular size and mini size cups. There is so much to learn and practice. Bottom line - I am still learning and have not decided what best suits me, got a long way to go. Hopefully I will eventually be good enough to just pick up any cup and just perform at any given moment. Have fun! |

Hmm... no one has mentioned the big difference being how much performance space you have as being a determining factor.
Gadfly3D I agree - a mini set of cups is a great solution when you can find a little space for a 2 or 3 cup routine - that's my preference. Still, I have a friend that swears a one cup routine is the only way to go. He opens with a chop cup all the time. It is instant gratification! I think the world needs a Mini Combo Set so you have both solutions in your pocket - if you have enough space for a full 3 cup routine, do it. If you don't, you have the chop cup in the set and can do a chop cup routine. |

The nice thing about a chop cup such as the Baby Don Alan is that it is small enough that it doesn't take up a lot of pocket space or table space, yet you can produce a 1 5/8 inch load ball from it. When performing this at a table, I use a piece of automobile headliner material about 6 inches by 9 inches as a close-up mat. This is hardly enough space to worry about, but you could actually use one that was half that size.
