Richard Ross teaches a billiard ball routine on his Greater Magic Video Library tape which uses a special ball for color changes. I had never seen this ball before, and can't quite understand what he is calling it. Sounds like he is saying "urunia lutaria ball", or some such thing. Anyone know the proper spelling of what he is talking about, and where one might find one?

Yes, thanks Bojan. Looks like these gimmicks are lost to the fates. Here's a thread I just ran across for anyone else who is interested in the history of this clever gimmick:

I purchased a set of Durania Balls a few years back at the yearly local magic club auction. A very cleaver gimmick and I got pretty good at using it, but it is
only for 1-1/2 inch balls and I have switched to 2 inch balls. I wish Porper or one of the other skilled metal manufacturers would reproduce these in the two inch size. But then I probably couldn't afford it. |

Wow, that gimmick sounds crazy! I had a tough time wrapping my mind around it.

I can supply a set of Durania Balls with special shell. The Richard Ross set was produced by Manfred Thum from Magic Hands in Germany in the eighties. The original was made in the sixties by Werrys. I have both of them.

Stevens Magic DID have some of these balls about a year or two ago when I stopped in.
I was not impressed at all with their appearance. Obviously they would look better from the stage, but close-up they looked cheap to me.
It's never crowded on the extra mile....

Right, I thought that I had heard that somewhere. I apologize, it's late. |
