So, while my mom is going to bed, we hear screaming. Don't know why. But we think maybe the pregnant lady next door is going into labor, but all we hear is screaming, not anything like help, or whatever help is in Spanish, just screaming off and on. Figure, hey, maybe she's drunk.
Then for a while we kept hearing the gate. Then we heard the back gate. Our strays are on the hefty side so we figure, whatever, it's them. And then I hear thumping, but again figure it's just our chubby cats. Then I look out, directly across from our door and see nothing. We hear more gate rattling and figure the people next door who we hate are trying to pull some shenanigans. My brother looks out and into our backyard and says, "I think someone's back there." Then he asks, "Who's back there." Only it's creeping me out because he's not in a rage, he's not threatening to kill someone. He sounded really, really, different, I dunno. It was just weird. So I go grab my big Mag Lite and look out a bedroom window. I can see something on our gate. I didn't know what. but it was blocking the rays of the porch light. It looked like someone had put up a scarecrow as a prank or something. So I turn on the flashlight and look through the window and see blackened feet, all I can think is that it must be a druggie. And I know... But all I could think to say was, "Who the **** are you? Get the **** out of here." Then because my mom is like a rabid wolverine when it comes to protecting her home and family, she comes out the door in her PJs and robe, armed with a baseball bat. She's trying to figure out who's back there, I keep yelling at my brother to call 9-1-1. I shine my flashlight and we see some twenty something medium complexion, blond Hispanic girl, barefoot, paisley halter top, blue jeans and a tiara halfway perched on our back fence. She keeps saying her boyfriend was beating her, and she doesn't want to get arrested. My mom says she smelled like beer. I could see her left knee was grossly swollen. She said she hurt it climbing over our fence. She is freaking out, my mom tells her to come sit down on the step. So she does. My mom gets mad because I keep dragging her backwards by her robe because I don't want her getting too close, just in case this girl lashes out. The girl is still muttering about the boyfriend and it's her birthday. She starts walking towards the front gate telling us not to call the cops. I tell her they'll send an ambulance which can gave her an icepack, she doesn't have to go anywhere if she doesn't want to. Some boys, twelve-ish, are saying her friends sent them to come find her, and something about someone named Johnny. She starts walking towards the front gate, I offer to unlock it, she tries to climb over it, falls, gets back up and climbs over it. And walks towards the street. We called 9-1-1. Fire department and an ambulance came, told them what happened, then they left. Then fifteen minutes later sheriffs show up. But they can't find any trace of her. We have no idea who she is. We have never seen her before. But now we're worried about her. Even though she was at least drunk, if not more, she was hurt and scared. Someone needed to be there for her but she wouldn't stay here long enough to help. And seriously, it creeped us out. It was like something out of a movie. Both my brother and I first thought, "Zombie?" It was just so surreal. Weird shadows, body parts in odd positions. Noises in the dark.
Trapeze above the Grand Canyon. Be impressed.

I don't understand how it is that you "almost killed" her.

Dang. My best friend, now passed, heard a noise outside his house and walked outside but didn't hear anything and the next morning a dead kid, stabbed, was found on the side yard. He'd been stabbed in the park and fell there.
