I am so tired of seeing the same answer again and again.
It goes like this.. someone comes, make a post ( maybe he does it just to have an excuse to comunicate with others and to have his own post) and ask something ( not necesarily stupid) like: hey guys what's up ? You know what? I just read AoA and It is amazing!! I am so exited... What do you guys think of it? What is your favorite trick from the book? 80% percent of the time the first answer they get is something like this: -This topic has already being made trillizian times. -Use the search button. -Search in google. I agree that this is indeed a good idea, I do think also, that for the same amount of effort you could probably answer the question in the first place, and maybe, if you are in the mood tell something alone the lines: "And you can also do a search in this and that as I saw your question posted elsewhere in the forum and I think you could find it interesting " I think the difference is obvious. Is a completly different aproach and attitude. In one aproach you are trying to sound good but you are basically saying: "I am very smart and you are stupid, go elsewhere with your question." I also think is silly to not talk about something just because that was talked before. If that were true you should be silent most of the time in your real life because you already talked many times about the same things again and again. I don't think that aproach is smart or helpfull. I think is an attitude problem that damages our society and discourage many people to say anything in the forums for fear of being made fun off. I just wanted to share my thoughts about this with you guys ps. Don't tell me that I could have used the search button to see that this topic was already talked about

Good point. Another point to add to this is about 50% of the time, when you try the search engine you get "page cannot be displayed".
So it's not fair to assume that a search was not attempted before a new post was started. |

And even if the topic has already been discussed, there is always new things that can be said. (I really have some problems with my english verbs! I can't talk in the past.. sorry, I had to share. )

Some times search results can produce hundreds of topics and it is quite tedious to go thru them all looking for the answer to your question.

maybe 80% you get a non-helpful answer. but maybe 95% of the time, with a minimal ammount of search the new poster could add their comments to an existing thread, while still encouraging dialouge and not cluttering up the message board. I think most people who encourage the use of the search function are just trying to impove the overall quality of the message board and aren't out to hurt anyones feelings. Whenever someone posts a redundant topic and I am posting there, at the very least I try to post a link to the alternate topic.

Does it really matter? So somebody doesn't make a search, or they do and can't find the answer they are looking for. Why not spend your time getting frustrated with something of more importance?

If someone asks a specific question, I'm happy to answer it even if it has already been discussed. However, if someone is just asking for opinions (as per the example given in the topic) I will direct them to the search function. This is not meant to be rude, but merely helpful as I got a lot of help from the search function myself when I began posting here.

Yes marko you are right. But the problem I refer to, and I see a lot of that is a problem of atittude as I said.
This is common sense, if you are being helpful and kind to someone,( as Geoff says, for example putting up a link for them to follow) and talking nice to them, then of course is fine and nobody will feel bad about it. I am just telling that I see the same answer about searching A LOT. Furthermore I see it more often than not being use as a form of violence ( and you can feel the virtual slap)and not as a form of kindness. I think that most of us can tell when someone is being helpfull and when someone is being rude.It is very different.

The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are
