"So, Jeff, how are you gonna get a whole book outta the Frixion pen? It's available in Target stores, so everybody's gonna know there's ink that erases when heated."
Jeff didn't say anything, possibly because he wasn't in the room. How he answered, was to produce Stone Frixion Fire, 38 pages (not counting cover, contents, and doo-dads) of answers. And he tackled the weakness of this pen (its ink goes invisible when you apply heat) right off. First, he provides a way to disguise the pen. Then, throughout the book, he finds ways to remove the (you have to forgive the pun) heat from the ink itself. This boy is just filled with presentation talent and ideas. Even with all the hand-it-to-you-on-a-silver-platter effects (i.e. "tricks") in this book, my favorite part is where he just throws out ideas for you to run with. If you have a creative bone in your body (and if you don't, you might just be in the wrong business) these mind-triggers will supercharge your brain into thinking just past the next step. I'm not going to insult you or Jeff by repeating the effects here - for one thing, it would take too long; for another, the titles alone can give away some of the best ideas. Let's just give two examples, one heavily developed and one as "just" an idea to get you started (with a heap of development added on Jeff's part anyway). For instance, would you have ever thought of using this to create a Rubik's Cube effect? Only a warped and carbohydrate-laden mind such as Jeff's would make THAT trip from Chicago to Memphis by way of Los Angelas. What I'm saying, is the boy is mad, utterly mad! How about the idea of repairing a flat tire and inflating it? Oh yeah, we've definitely developed a "Who IS this weird guy and why does weird stuff happen when he's around?" The weird guy is Jeff Stone at http://www.StoneColdMagicMagazine.com (I could lead you to his home site, but you want to read the free magazine too.), the weird book is Stone Frixion Fire, and the price is $14.95 until Jeff wises up and raises the price. *jeep! --Grandpa Chet

I've published booklet on the same subject in Taiwan few years back using the Frixion high lighter and the frixion pen, but I've never thought of using it as a production as Jeff described in the notes, good work!!!

I've downloaded the pdf from lybrary.com and have read it. To be honest, I haven't tried out the specific tricks noted in it yet, but I've done a few things with the pens along the general lines in the past, and I can see them working well.
The writing and the descriptions are clear, and the layout is good. There is a text on the history of magic using the pens, with a description of various booklets or dvd examples where Frixion pens have been utilised, with a brief criticism / comment on each. The meat of the book is the tricks, of course, and as has been noted elsewhere, while there are some very nice tricks described, these are suggested as springboards you can use to suit the type of reveals, or the items you use to perform your magic with etc. Having said that, there are a few things that struck me as being very clever and that I will definitely use as they are. The tricks are small, close-up things, the sort of thing you could use as an introduction to what you can do, or to keep handy for a 'when challenged to do something Magic Man (or Woman)' situation. It's well researched, interestingly and straightforwardly written, and for me it was worth the money. |

Hey everyone . . .
We just finished shooting a DVD based on this book. We start post production next week, and are hoping for an early March release. No promises, and I'm NOT taking pre-orders. We all know how that usually ends up. I am, however, giving away 10 free copies once it's released. All you have to do is be on my newsletter/magazine list and that's it. It will be a random draw of 10 subscribers. Stone Cold Magic Magazine is Free. Just click on the "Free Magic Mag" link in my signature. Then on the top right side of the Magazine site, click "Subscribe Via Email For Free." That's it. The Drawing will be held on the day that I receive the shipment of the DVDs . . . sometime in March 2010. Thanks! |

Okay everybody it's three years from the orignal post. I just downloaded my copy the other day. I was out of the game for a while and missed the whole frixion thing. Today the price is 20 dollars for the dvd and you get the pdf for free. Still waiting for the dvd but I downloaded the pdf and did a first read through of the entire book which is now 96 pages. Awesome Awesome Awesome. Heading down to the local magic store to grab some flash paper. Yes you do want to have some flash paper when you start playing around with these ideas. Highly recommended. Just wish flash paper was cheaper. Much like chips it goes fast!

My 8 year old daughter shared a story with me last night. Her friend at school produced an excellent piece of work and her teacher was very impressed. So impressed in fact that the teacher wanted to put the work on the wall for all to see. The work was so good the teacher went one step further and decided to laminate it first.
Can you see what is coming? Yes, the girl had used a Frixion pen and the teacher was really surprised to find that as the work came out of the hot laminator she was holding a laminated blank piece of paper!!! All of the poor girl's work had vanished. |

That's funny! Though won't it appear again if she puts it in the fridge for a bit?

I have this pdf, got it a couple of years ago if my memory is working. People really don't know about the Frixion pen as much as you think they do, I think as magicians we are over thinking again, I have never had anyone question the pen.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

Let me tell you guys something: Brad Gordon's effect in the book (where the bacteria in the petri dish "rearrange" to spell out the spec's card.........)
I don't care if you showed that trick to the chemist who invented Frixion pens....he'd/she'd STILL laugh and be amazed!! That's my never leave home without it trick, I'm serious!!
His face isn't really this long in-person!
