OK...I'm stuck. Could you help brain storm?
History: My first website was http://www.scottburtonmagic.com. I had all of my types of shows (children and adult) together on one web site all mixed together. About a 1.5 years ago, I created two new websites to better target my two types of services to the intented audience (more targeted). These two other web sites (www.amazingcompanyevents.com and http://www.mostfunever.ca) are more or less where I want them to be right now and they are the only ones being advertised. I kept around old domain (www.scottburtonmagic.com) around because I had many handouts etc printed that still had that web address. The idea was to take off all the old content off that old site and create a "portal" page which would direct a potential client to the most appropriate site. Today: This older site (scottburtonmagic.com) still gets the best results on search engines. Also, when someone searches for some variation of "magician", this site is good because I could not know what type of audience or event they are trying to entertain when searching for "magician". I think this portal page has value for this purpose to find then funel people to the best site. What I'm stuck on: I'm trying to make http://www.scottburtonmagic.com interesting, compelling, professional, but very neutral to event type as the #1 purpose is to get the vistor to the appropriate site. I admit: the page does not look good nor does it hit the mark as far as the message goes. I just can't decide for myself how to present this without alienating either type of client (example: I don't want pictures of laughing kids if the client wishes for a corporate entertainer and vise versa). I can change things myself or get a pro to do it. But...the fact is that I can't figure out the best way to present this. I would love to hear your ideas! Thanks! |

Scott -
I think that you should do the side by side icons like you currently have at the bottom of the page, but move them to the top. Also, you could have something like, "Make your next event amazing and absolutely unforgettable. Every event has it's own unique needs, and therefor needs appropriate entertainment. Choose which description suits you best." Then with arrows pointing down in the two directions (left and right). Also, above the icons, I would also put the words "Adult and Corporate Audiences" and "Children's and Family Audiences". Don't assume they'll read it on the graphic itself. Also, under each graphic / icon, put the url so they can read it (learn it). This also reminds them that they are being re-directed. I'm not sure if you need the videos or the client icons, if you are using this as a portal page. But they could be under the website icons (side by side works in my imagination). As it is, they may watch a video, and forget to click to another page (the appropriate website you are trying to drive them to). The more time they spend on a page, the less likely it is to be a portal page (in my opinion). You should also change your icon for the Children's and Family Shows to have your picture on it, too. Because I'm sure that people are more inclined to click where they see a person. - Donald

Umm ok..
I just did a runthrough of your sites.. the 1st thing I noticed you saying is that your new sites don't rank as well.. so that's what I looked at mostly 1. the funnel site needs to become a actual site with a look and feel all its own 2. education is key to get you better rankings so lets look at the code <title>Winnipeg Magician & Entertainer Scott Burton - Magicians and Entertainers in Manitoba</title> <meta name="KEYWORDS" content="Winnipeg Magician" /> <meta name="DESCRIPTION" content="Winnipeg Magician Scott Burton: Creating laughter and amazement 100% guaranteed" /> <meta name="ROBOTS" content="index, follow" /> when we are looking at rankings these 3 are vital the TITLE Meta Description ok so these 2 things are vital (and I know some will disagree with this but umm the KEYWORD meta tag.. Yahoo and Google IGNORE) the Title is the Blue link in search results the description is the text below it these need to be written on ALL pages to generate traffic for the content on that page over 90% of traffic will come into "DEEP" pages if your indexing and ranking well to get better Rankings you need MORE inbound links with the correct "Anchor Text" if you simply target your traffic with Title, Description, and inbound links you will do fine..
its ok.. balloon dogs don't bite
