I received today (7/7/09)from our series editor Randy Craven program #7 and program #8 of Now That's Magic! Both programs should be downloaded by MagicBob to our free web site at http://www.ChristianMagician.org in the next few days. There are several Gospel routines on each program you may enjoy watching- feel free to use them in your own programs if you desire or modify them to fit your own style and program. Feel free to also copy them for free (not commercial) distribution or for ministry use.
Program contents of Now That's Magic! #7: -SuZie doing a "Trinity" chalk art picture to music -MagicBob doing the "Bag of Doom" escape. Uses Proverbs 5 regarding escaping from the "cords of sin." -Dave Stoepker doing a lota bowl routine based on Kings 17 (Elisha), the full fisherman's net (paper sack) from the Gospel of Luke, and a "Prince of Peace" card routine (available from Doc Haley/Steve Varro) based on a 70ties "peace" theme. -Roger Magic Bus doing the Kovari Chinese sticks. Program contents of Now That's Magic! #8: -Roger Magic Bus doing the "Pro Sands of The Desert" (available from Stevens Magic) based on a Bill Baker routine he saw at an FCM convention in Indiana -MagicBob doing a giant three card monte with a "Jesus" is the King card -Randy Craven (also our film editor) doing the Fuzzy Wuzzy Teddy Bear/change bag routine on "bearing" one another's burdens. Lock Family Magic probably has it. -Roger Magic Bus doing "What Color Is Your Bible" from Lock Family Magic (Laflin) and a Holy Bible coloring book (available from Doc Haley/Steve Varro. Also used an encouragement to purchase a Bible and have a "read" one. One of my favorite effects! -MagicBob doing the "Laflin" Houdini wall (available from Lock Family Magic) based on John 14:16: "I am the Way." -Roger Magic Bus doing the Barry Mitchell "Chains of Sin." Available from Barry Mitchell's web site. -Duane Laflin doing the multiplying sponge ball routine (available on his excellent Sponge Ball Magic DVD) along with a beautiful feather flower dove pan- uses Proverbs 28:13. MagicBob has several prison shows this week he is doing (in addition to having a full time job)- but he will no doubt somehow manage to get the above programs posted to http://www.ChristianMagician.org later this week- thanks again MagicBob for maintaining our web site- you are terrific! I appreciate everyone showing up for us (we are all volunteers) doing a Gospel trick or two- and making this cable access series possible. Feel free to post to The Magic Café/FCM section if you do the same effects but may have other routines that work well for you that you'd like to share here. Thanks again all for being a part of this web chatter group- I really enjoy sharing this stuff with you all and am encouraged by all of you. Fired UP!, hope you are too! I'd love to see more cable access programs coming out by FCM members, fun to do, and the local stations are happy to air them. Roger |

MagicBus, you finally got to show us your performance with the sands of the desert. I remember awhile back when you informed us you purchased this effect. Does it take a lot of practice?
I also enjoyed Dave's wording for his presentation this time around. |

Hi: Well to be totally honest, that was the first time I ever performed the effect, EVER. Alan Kazam had a birthday party show to go to on that Saturday, so we basically "winged it", got the camera rolling, you saw the result, we had no idea how it would work out or how the timing of it would be. I was truly amazed how well it turned out considering our lack of practice including together. The trick is so very easy to perform, it pretty much works itself. I thought on camera we did not make it very clear that the sand once removed the water was both dry and separate in color. I still see in my mind clearly how Bill Baker performed it, it is a beautiful effect and with some real practice- could easily be an ending piece for any Gospel magic program- an easy "illustration" of God cleaning up a life. I do agree with Duane Laflin that Gospel magicians need to practice more, including myself, but many of the effects on the 12 programs already filmed (and we are filming another hour this Saturday) are fresh ones as we want to try to make each program different. This Saturday we will be filming, among other things, the wonderful Germaine Water Jars ("Living Water"), the Tom Horn escape, chalk art to the song "Life Is Like A Mountain Railroad", Abbott's Florabella and Goofus Plant, Strat-O-Spheres using fruit (a lesson on the Fruit of the Spirit), the Mikame mirror frame, as well as other items.
Hope you enjoy the series, #6 for example, is airing tonight on Comcast Channel 12 where I live at 9PM tonight. Thanks again for your kind comments and questions. |

To be posted within a month to http://www.ChristianMagician.org will be the one hour SPECIAL EDITION of Now That's Magic! We did all the filming on July 11, WOW, some really unique stuff will be on it. We only had one camera operator (me), so when I performed we had to use set cameras, but the performances of MagicBob and SuZie were truly outstanding. Among other things we filmed included two very beautiful and complicated chalk art pieces, a complex Tom Horn chain escape, the Germaine water jars, the penny to flattened Ten Commandments penny effect, a Strat-O-Spheres using fruit, Abbott's Florabella and Goofus Plant, ABC Blocks, and a Mikame Ghost Ball with giant scissors. Most everything had Gospel applications as well. I think you will enjoy it/might be able to get some ideas from which are welcome to use.

The filming for the one hour special went great, might have enough footage for another 1/2 hour regular program out of it. When the program is finished and posted, we hope to place a complete series index in The Christian Conjurer citing effects involved, performers names, and Scripture verses used.

[quote] Hi, MagicBus: NTM ranks along with "House" and "24" as "must see." I look forward to each program, and appreicate your sharing it with us here on the Café. I also do a "fruits of the Spirit" routine, using a Crystal Silk Cylinder. I speak that, although some may exhibit some traits such as kindness and love, in some it is through their own power, not as a result of the Spirit working in them. But God can "see through" their works (illustrating this by looking through the silks I am using.) The conclusion, of course, is producing "real fruit." Just a quick contribution. Look forward to your special, and God bless your chapter and its efforts. |

Wow, great idea! I really like the basic concept of this trick, more interesting to me personally than the regular Strat-O-Spheres.
Since we have done so many Now That's Magic! programs, many of the effects we are doing are not part of our "regular" shows, but effects we have at home and now doing them for the tv program (so not to have many repeats of the same tricks). The Fruit of the Spirit routine last Saturday I filmed in one take, to be totally honest, and it was the first time I ever did the routine. It was fun! We had only a few minutes left in the studio, and did not even have camera operators (as I usually run the camera)- so we used "fixed" camera positions- just hope they work out. Then after we are long gone out of the studio, I sit down and review what we shot, hope it looks ok. I was really pleased with this initial Fruit of the Spirit routine. Kinda interesting and worked out well, even when my full sized apple got stuck in the tube! I think I will definately use it again, all you need is Strat-O-Spheres and some fruit that fits in your tube. Thanks again for your kind comments. I am really excited about the one hour "SPECIAL" edition that is coming out next- it is pretty unique and has some Gospel magic stuff on it you may have never seen before. The MagicBob lit light bulb to salt was absolutely amazing to me, the bulb was super bright (almost blinding) in the studio- how it turned to being full of salt I still have no idea. It looked like a sun spot on my camera when filming it. FCMer Randy our film editor is getting all the raw footage today, we'll see what he can come up with in piecing it together into the hour special and probably another 1/2 hour program as well. I wish you all could join us in studio, it is like filming a FCM magic chapter meeting, we really had fun last week, and we don't worry about whether it works or not, we just do it. Our Editor Randy takes what we have and molds it into programs, takes all the pressure off as you don't have to worry about messing up too badly, such as if the footage is out of focus or something like that (which happens from time to time). Hope you continue to enjoy, it sure is a pleasure for us to make. I don't know now how many more we will make this year as our switch board operator Matt Bizer graduated from WMU and has moved back to the Detroit area. So we have to find another switcher, or if I do it, another camera operator. So that may be it for awhile as the cable access studio requires its operators to go through classes before you can touch anything, etc., and most of the performers (other than Alan Kazam) have not done that. I am planning to try to get an INDEX (including Scripture reference, trick, performer name) for all 14 to be completed programs printed in The Christian Conjurer, hopefully they will do that for us. I think I myself could use an index, can't even remember now what is where and how to find it! Psalm 67! Roger from http://www.ChristianMagician.org |
