This is one trick I'd like to preform, but I find the wax very unreliable. Sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn't. It's not something I want to go to the trouble of doing just to have all the cards fall to the floor for nothing.
One thing I can think of is looseness in the elastic. In some trials yesterday the bound cards would fall out of the elastic which may be what causes the deck to not have enough force to stick the wax to the card/ ceiling? |

Use a bit more wax and you might try buying a wax ring from a hardware store used to seal a toilet. It costs under $2. It is quite a bit softer than the wax sold in magic stores for this trick and I find it much easier to use for this trick in the winter. If it doesn't work for you, at least you only spent two bucks.

I use an empty (duh!) tin of mints from either Starbucks or Costa coffee. The tin is just the right size for a couple of bands and six pieces of wax on the underside of the lid.
For wax I always use Tacky wax from craft shops. Always, sticky and always soft - it has never failed, even when pretty cold. |

For the "ethics" under discussion here, you should have NO problem getting a hold of the person in charge as they would have been the same person that hired you.
Any place I've worked where I was able to do the effect (re, the ceiling allowed it) I would approach the owner about it during our first meeting, performing it as one of my "selling" effects. The owner will EXPERIENCE the impact, and also, make sure to SELL the advertising the cards provide. They will get people's interest even when you are not working, encouraging more to return.

I won't forget you Robert. |
