Just looking for some advice:
I need to ship over-sized props (specifically about 50"x30"x30" and 100 lbs) for a show in Europe and was hoping some people had some advice on the best way to go about that. I'd really appreciate some thoughts if you have ever shipped illusions or other large props internationally. Thanks! |

It kind of depends on the gig and contract that you set up. Something that size should be by freight. It shouldn't have to come out of your pocket unless they reimburse you.

Why can't it go on the plane with you as oversize luggage? It'll cost about $150-$200 depending on the airline.

Whatever it will cost as oversize luggage on your plane,
is probably less, and more sure, than trying to ship to Europe from the USA. Once the crate is out of the US carrier's hands, it may "vanish" in the foreign country, or you may wind up with huge taxes and fees if you don't do the claim paperwork properly. I had to send a 24" cube size box to Italy for a workshop, and it ended up costing much more than if I'd taken it along! Call UPS and FedEx for starts, or use their online ship tools to get a ballpark, then call your airline. Best of luck, Walt |

It's too big for oversize, it needs to go air freight but after 9/11 you'll need to go through an international freight forwarder. We would ship all of our Illusions directly in the old days but we can't anymore. It will have to be bonded but the freight forwarding company will arrange all of that.
Just call the air lines for recommendations or look in the yellow pages.

Ive always wondered how someone like Copperfield ships his HUGE illusions everywhere. I know he usually travels inside the US and Canada, so it could go by truck, but what if he goes over seas..
Puzzles me.

Didn't someone mention that the composition of the road case should not be wood?
